hes not the best drummer in the world but anyone who can keep up a hard and fast metallica set earns respect in my book........although didnt think much(nor did many) of his choice of sound for the st anger album(tin cans hit with a stick anyone?) thankfully death magnetic was a big improvement in drum sound from that one misadventure. And love the drumming in epic tracks such as `one` etc that double bass always fires up the crowd

as for mogwai I actully do like them but they sound just bitter they have to compete with metallica, you compare the two bands and look at what theyve done and achieved you cant really compare....mogwai calling metallica shit is like a member of steps saying it to the beatles....both pop acts but one so far away from the other haha

fair dos. I'll be pissed as a fart so will be in no state to studiously observe their technical ability anyway

Bands slagging off other bands always strikes me a rather petty (even though some of my favourite acts have done it)

You're off to see them after all your gripes with them? Blimey.

Are there any other bands where the drummer is the leader, voice and decision maker?

One of the interviews linked earlier had him saying "I decide the setlist about an hour before we go on." Does noone elsse get a say?

And now it turns out he can't even keep time. Isn't that the most important part of drumming?

James does. Lars isn't the solo leader that the quote suggests. Don't think he would dare do something without James' consent. He might get shot.

Lars does more of the promo/financial/management stuff. James does more of the creative stuff I guess.

If anyone hasn't seen it, Some Kind of Monster is a masterpiece. Terrible music and cringing behaviour from all. A band who had reached the end. James was an alco at the time too.

Good clip here. Kicks off at about 1 min 40.

And heres the bit where James, by his own admission, showed miraculous restraint by not punching Lars.

its taking an hour to set up the stage for them. Pyro time!

Also for the their euro tour they are having the Snake Pit like on the Black Album tour and the 2012 Black Album anniversary tour. this might be an addition for the glastonbury stage, such as U2 with their platform.

But tbh this might take too long to construct...

They definitely won't be having a snakepit at Glastonbury as that is usually reserved for members of their fan club who enter a draw to win passes and there is no contest for Glastonbury.

There is a metclub meet and greet contest but yes no Snake Pit passes

"It's comforting that 33 years into a career you can still mange to stir it up a little bit. Glastonbury is the biggest, greatest festival on this planet and we're headlining Saturday night. Bring it on. We're going to show up and have fun but all the hoopla is interesting."

I have been reading some of the comments on here and in other Facebook/twitter/blogs about the petition going around which aims at stooping Metallica playing Glastonbury because of the picture which shows James hunting. Its got me pretty wound up. Not with individual people, or forums or sites but just peoples general attitude on the internet these days with petitions and campaigns,

A photo emerges an everyone is immediately turned into a moral god. People start to throw out suggestions to ban them from playing, non relevant insults at the band, question the morality of Michael Evais, question the ethics of the festival. I just pisses me off the stance people have on the internet that they are above someone based upon a a photo or video that depicts someones p[personality for a small, tiny moment. If we were to do this with everyone and indeed everyone who is playing the festival we could have 100s of petitions.

I dont not like hunting, and i believe it is wrong.others will feel this way and feel strong enough to avoid seeing Metallica, but for crying out loud a petition?

Just another rant, pay no heed!

    • Based on previous times that rules quite a lot out of early summer festivals into the August runs.
    • No dramas man, I just like to follow others journeys as well. Get the inspiration, give out inspiration and the outdoors is the clear the head place to do it. I'm heading out for a easy trail run today I think, 10k- 10 mile we'll see how we go. I've got a half marathon in October I'm well unprepared for hahs
    • The Cheap Thrills at Mountford Hall, Liverpool.    They've been around for a while and have built up a large local following. Last night was their biggest yet, at a sold out 2,200 capacity venue.    It was a big old joyous, indie singalong from start to finish, the band clearly having the time of their lives. The debut album is out next month and they seem to be going down well on the festival circuit, maybe their time has finally come.   2 supports, I unfortunately missed Credits but the few songs they have on Spotify sound good, Americana vibes. The other was M60, reportedly Gary Neville's favourite band. If that's true, he's as clueless about music as he is football. To be fair, their sound was poor, maybe with a clearer sound they'd have been better but it was pretty dull.
    • I can see them all merging along with the Tory’s . Restore curently couldn’t muster enough candidates to be a viable option . I lasted 4 mins and couldn’t watch any more . Lowe is just dull along with racist
