Metallica 2014

I have to chuckle at those questioning if they're headline worthy, they've sold literally 10x the amount of albums as the other two headliners have combined and there aren't too many bands that still sell out arenas and stadiums after 30 years.

Can I mention Rush? Forty years to the month (pretty much) since the release of their first album!

Yes I can, It's totally relevant.

We got tickets in the resale today and i'm hoping Metallica along with Dolly will be my high lites of the weekend.

i've run out of likes liking everybody's posts about getting tickets, but that's good shit man :) it's gonna be amazing

i grew massively tired of Enter Sandman in my teens due to it being overplayed on rock channels etc, but after listening to the Black Album a lot recently i've grown to love it all over again. gonna be such a great moment when that riff kicks in :D

No matter how many times you've seen it live or listened to the song it brings a shiver to the spine when they play it.

Metallica at Glastonbury. How great does that sound?!

Orion will be a hoot. Check out Rodrigo y Gabriela too. Rob Trujillo is going to play it with them I would bet.

I'm hoping so, I think it has to be him with them on the Friday though as they are elsewhere on the Saturday?

Paris yeah. But I reckon Metallica will be there all weekend. They've nothing on for a couple of weeks before the festival.

How refreshing was Lars' interview about playing? Of all the big American (Danish) acts, I don't think theres anyone who "gets" it as much as him.

Sun setting. We've just seen Robert Plant and Jack White, the lights go out and The Ecstasy of Gold starts playing on the Pyramid Stage.....

Pig. In. Shit.

Glasto should employ Andy Gray just to shout "AWWWW YA BEAUTAAAAAY!!" as they walk out.

That's awesome news Nal! That's you, Neil, Yoghurt, Zoo Music Girl and yours truly who left it late this year (not many as late as you mind!)

I feel humbled to be in such illustrious company! ;)

We should start a "lucky bastards" meet!

And now it's made mine too!

It's a cinderella story year for Efests.

Has this thread had a good piss-take of the guy that wrote the bashing article in the guardian about how Metallica playing to the shit mainstreamers at Glastonbury is the worst thing ever?

If not, it's here

http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/may/08/metallica-at-glastonbury-another-half-baked-vanity-project

What a silly sausage.

This is becoming a very select crowd indeed! I can't remember a year where so many regulars missed out only to come good later on. I always thought the secret resales were an urban myth like the monorail or Prince headlining! :)

Do you think Metallica might play stairway to heaven with Robert Plant (hope above link works)

I'd be surprised...don't think they're exactly fans of Stairway to Heaven...In a dream world, I'd love to see Kirk Hammett get his teeth into Since I've Been Loving You with Percy on lead vocals, but that's never gonna happen! If they do a cover/collaboration, it'll probably be something we can't predict...

Royal Blood > Plant > White > Metallica

Glasto really doesnt get any better from my perspective. That is awesome.

Royal Blood yeah?

Will check them out.

That day is serious stuff. I dont think I couldve faced watching that on the telly.

Never mind the totally impressive guitar geekery Guitargeek.

Isn't it about a bloke who has been left as basically a deaf, dumb and blind torso after encountering a bomb?

Definitely not a ballad.

Pretty much. Check out the music video for the song and you'll get it. Excellent video.

    • I'm surprised they risked it, especially after nearly missing their Glasto 22 slot under similar circumstances  I did see someome say Ellie didnt sound as strong as recently but I'm guessing playing 3 shows in 2 different continents doesnt help that    On the topic though I can definitely see them doing a Fontaines and having a break over winter before a few final Clearing shows next summer
    • That's fair on WA - I did recall people thinking Fontaines would take this year off before this was announced.    On the subject of Wolf Alice, they did Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday then Kendal Calling last night. Bit of an odd choice, no? Half imagine at Kendal that they would've been just exhausted.
    • Just logged onto the app to start planning my days and there really are a LOT of stages missing. Apart from the Seaside Stage there is no Casemates this year etc. Apart from the Seaside Stage, there are no Casemates this year, etc. Can't see anything about the kids field really. And there's local acts that are normally there like Kojak's Revenge that aren't appearing either.  Normally we get down fairly early but I can't see anything before 3pm I'm keen to see. Only one real clash as well, which is good, but it's thin and it's not thin in the sense of "I've seen a lot of these acts before"
