i don't think so. i mean, obviously starting with something like Enter Sandman would have people going nuts, but then for a lot of people it'd be 'right, seen Enter Sandman, off we go'. and the only other mainstay set / big tunes from that album are Sad But True and Nothing Else Matters, neither of which would really work as a set opener. i reckon they'll stick with Battery

I've heard bits of Metallica, and everything I'd heard was not particularly inspiring. But I thought, if they're on, maybe I'll give them a look. Every track that gets put on here sounds so dull and ploddy. They seem to do a lot of dull and ploddy with pretty awful lyrics.

They are the lesser of a plethora of evils - and, as such, should be embraced as one of the least worst options.

The lyrics are awful, mind. Particularly that one about 'Playing Monopoly....'

The once in a lifetime experience of the stones at glastonbury makes that wrong in my opinion.

(Along with the fact its The Stones vs Chase snd Status)

But I've never liked the Stones, never cared about them, don't buy into the whole cult-of-personality thing surrounding Jagger & Richards, and it would've been a waste of my time standing in the Pyramid field that night.

Anyway, this is a discussion I should've jumped into a year ago, but I didn't go last year, so I didn't.

I think it says it all that even fans of the band admit they will only go down well with the masses if they do a load of covers and stick to the slow songs

where on earth have people said that recently? (i know it was stupidly talked about when they were first suggested as headlining). haven't seen anybody mention covers, and if by 'slow songs' you mean people saying they should open with something from Black Album… wouldn't be any different than Radiohead opening their Reading set with Creep

i saw a chat on another forum once about whether Queen, fronted by various top vocalists of the now, would make a good pyramid headliner

Queen were fucking awful, but yes that would go down a storm I'm sure. And Glastonbury could get away with it because they don't have to sell tickets off the back of their line-up, unlike Sonisphere who tried to have Queen headlining the other year, but ended up cancelling the whole festival due to lack of interest.

Agreed. But showing up to add a little geetar to Metallica would be one of the best non-badger preservation related activities he could get up to this June.

It's the same with most acts at a festival though isn't it? I would say a fair few tailor their setlist for a festival crowd. I could have a dream setlist for Metallica and one I think they should play in the same way I could for say The Stones.

Nah - most headliners would just play a good set of their music, with maybe one novelty song.
