because it's saturday night on the pyramid and they tend to pick bands who most people like....they tried to this year, but it all got fucked up so they had to promote lars and co

If you're referring to Fleetwood Mac and/or Prince, I can assure you that "most" people don't like either of those acts either.

No one likes them because a small cross section of people on an internet forum don't, in the majority.

or rather, a small cross section of people on an internet forum do like them, so think that they're a suitable choice to headline a festival that ostensibly doesn't do metal

Have you got anything new to add to this argument or are you just going to keep repeating it until the festival starts, and probably carry it on afterwards?

No issues here either. Wouldn't be too stunned if some Load tracks showed up - Until it Sleeps and King Nothing are pretty much the only things from that era that have survived until the present, and neither sound bad live.

I'd say the majority here are against the idea, I think there only seems to be a handful of vocal supporters in this thread as far as I can see!

I'm not sure if there's any truth to the "Saturday night" thing, I think it's been purely coincidental that the act with the broadest appeal has played that day. I think sometimes people see patterns in things like that even though they aren't set in stone. Surely the biggest deciding factor will always be acts' touring schedules.

don't think either of those have been played for years have they? wouldn't mind either as they're some of the better Load / ReLoad tracks, but i can't see it. they're not exactly songs that fans of the band are begging to be reintroduced into the sets (otherwise they'd probably be included in at least one of the 'by request' things)

Do they never play the day that never comes then? I think that's a great track :)

I'd be more interested in the Arcade Fire crowd to be honest, when I saw them at Reading a few years back it was one of the smallest headline band crowds I've seen there. Maybe as small as/equal to Razorlight and My Chemical Romance's crowds.

That said subsequent award wins the following year did give their popularity a big boost.

On a similar note, Kasabian definitely had the smallest crowd of the 2012 T in the Park headliners. I easily got into the front section of the crowd, and then barely had to push my way pretty close to the front... after the set had started.

i reckon they'll play that at Glastonbury. only reason it hasn't been included so much lately is because of the 'by request' thing (though it (surprisingly) is always quite high up in the voting thing). not a massive fan of it - just a poor man's One i think - but wouldn't mind it being played

There are three dates on this page https://www.metallica.com/tour_overview.asp from earlier in the year and it looks like basically the same songs but with the prder swapped round, couple of changes (including Blackened) but not vast changes.

I couldn't see many changes to that for Glastonbury.

hence widespread dissent over apparent choice of metal band

Jesus, destroying childrens minds, causing dissent!!! Next you will be telling us, this metalz band are causing kids to smoke pot and self harm!!

Why can't Glastonbury be like Bomont before Ren McCormack moved there?!

I saw At The Drive In at Reading 2012 instead of Kasabian so I'm not sure what kind of crowd they got but the tent for ATDI was pretty empty....

Metallica will do fine crowd wise, they're MASSIVE compared to the other two headliners really.

Jaysus lads. Calm the fuck down

I dont want to add Fuel to the fire but if friggin Mumford, Beyonce and Jay friggin Zizpots can headline Glasters Metallica can. Its all about diversity.

I personally dont do metal, but can appreciate some of it, especially some of Metallicas tunes and I reckon they will be great on the Pyramid to the same extent that Beyonce is said to have knocked it out of the park.

If you dont like their music do not go. Nothing else matters. Its not as if they are the One and only band playing at that time. Sometimes a headliner does not suit your taste. Sad but true.

Where ever you roam that night at Glasto Im sure you will have a great night

;)

Each to their own

yeah arcade fire poor choice too imo, kasabian i like but still uninspiring. never mind though.

what's called for is a huge band of the moment, or legendary bands with big tunes that everyone knows....ok so metallica have maybe 1 or 2 tunes that everyone kind of knows, which is pushing it tbh, but it's hardly going to be a defining pyramid moment is it....still, there's always next year.

i've said before - good luck to all the metallica fans who will massively enjoy the show, i'm pleased for you, but i'm not so pleased for me and the rest (majority) of people who don't want it.

i'm not losing sleep over it by the way...or going wah wah wah. the banter in this thread is fun and all, but is just that.
