Kili have said numerous times in the last fortnight that Metallica are still exclusives, bare in mind that JJ is a co-owner of Sonishere and Metallica's booking agent, I'm more inclined to believe them, than hearsay on a forum which frequently gets a lot of things wrong and has no source for any information.

I can't guarantee the accuracy of what I'm hearing (which is why I'm regularly making the point I'm not certain), but I certainly have sources and very good ones.

I know that the official line is that they're not doing Glastonbury. But I also know other things too, and very well sourced.

They never got announced for Download, they played a secret set in the tent, if that happens at Glastonbury, fair do's. Big difference between that and being announced as a headliner for 2 festivals, 1 week apart in the UK.

My point being, past history regarding bands is just that; history.

Metallica clearly have an opportunity to play the festival they have publicly wanted to play. Nothing is immovable in the music industry. Any "exclusive" on Sonisphere's part might quite happily be renegotiated, depending on ticket sales blah blah.

Not related, sorry to burst your bubble and I frequently called him out on stuff in that other thread, so no my account wasn't started after he stopped posting. I get the impression that he stopped posting because he made up a load of crap about who is playing what festival and got a lot wrong, like so many in these threads.

Why would any band, even the biggest in the World, sign a contract restricting them to a single gig in a country over a period of time? Even if it was HUGE sums of money, it makes no sense.

Glastonbury is not any old festival tho. It's sold out whether Metallica are playing or not, so it creates far less of an impact onto that other fest. Also, a much later announcement (likely to be mid-april, I think) than is normal before a festival also helps.

But I suspect that the preference from the band is for them to not be announced. That's possibly why the plan until recently (if there is a plan, of course) was for them to headline the Other Stage; my info is that a convo started initially about them headlining Pyramid, which changed because of their deal with Soni.

It appears that the plan (if there is a plan, of course) is for them to headline Pyramid, unless Prince comes back to the festival and says yes. That might mean they get announced after all, it might not.

Anyway, I've had a lot of info from a number of differently placed sources with it all matching up. In no case can I say that info is 100% trustable (for a number of different but sensible reasons), but the amount of it makes me think it's likely to be true.

I didn't say your account started after he stopped posting. And yes you 'called him out', but I don't think many people are dumb enough to fall for something so obvious and eagerly used as an excuse when two accounts displaying such similar behaviour don't cross over for very long.

Money, that's why. It happens a fair bit (any "exclusive"), but not quite how you've worded it.

The restriction does not normally say "no other gigs", it more-normally says "no other advertised gigs".

It's via that that Metallica played at Download that year.

Apart from... how is it any different from a band changing it's setlist between gigs? As so many bands do. It's not like they have to cart around a new stage show or they forget their 'greatest hits' just because they're doing a request tour.

If the money they would get form that one gig is greater than what they would get form playing more than one (including the loss of exposure) then it makes perfect sense.

It's a new gimmick to con people into thinking they're paying for something different that they may not have seen before.
