All relative value judgments though, bud. They're also a pop act compared to Test Department, Albert Ayler and Metal Machine Music, but they're pretty scary and abrasive compared to anyone else that's topped the bill in the last 15 years.

Watching those (ace) videos Nal posted reminds me just how "pop" Metallica are.

'Enter sandman' was my earworm today due to those videos. I'm now reliving my teenage angst years by listening to Master of puppets.

Might check out some 'tallica this weekend. Master of Puppets is the prob best place to start, right?

And justice for all IMO is their best for new listeners who aren't too afraid of crunching guitars. Kill em all and master of puppets don't really hold back

Ride the Lightning. Then Puppets. I think Puppets is their best album by some distance. Its my favourite "heavy" album ever actually.

Good craic how Hetfield and Ulrich's pop roots pulled them back from the brink of prog after the two late 80's records.

"Orion" is the one for me at Glasters. That'd be sublime to hear on the Pyramid.

My wee brother had a copy of Ride The Lighnting and used to play it a fair bit around the house, but none of it really stuck - maybe with the exception of Fade To Black.

In terms of And Justice For All, I only really know One.

Maybe I just dig their power-ballads.

I don't like the sound/production on And Justice For All. Always puts me off playing it but I might give it another go.

I gave Master a spin last night and it probably is the most accessible up until the Black album. For a casual listener, Black is probably the place to start.

Black Album always seemed to be on at a certain type of party I attended in my teenage years - but, again, apart from a few of the more well-known tunes, none of it really stuck.

The Black Album is extremely overrated. 4 ish good tunes. Load got panned but Load has 4 ish good tunes on it too.

To me St Anger was the step they took toward being a more metal act again - Death Magnetic. St Anger isnt bad, but you may as well just skip it and go to Death Magnetic In my opinion.

Wooderson - hands up it is the one album I don't own, but never been too fond of it when I have listened to it. I don't actually mind Reload though, but they are albums I never recommend. I normally just tell people to listen to the first four and eventually they will end up at Load/Reload.

i spoke to my ex-moshy mate about the metallica possibility. she reckons it's all down to attitude on the night. that they'd storm the other stage without thinking about it and with a bit of care they could do the same to the pyramid.

having been let down and quite astonished at bands who should 'get it' simply not (arcade fire seeming intimidated in '07 when they should have romped it, u2 missing the boat and morrissey being a sulky tool in '04) she's hopeful her old crush lars will actually understand the job in hand.

so, if they're playing, i guess i'm going over for a nosey.

Death Magnetic is an awesome album and one of the best live shows i have ever seen.

As they have matured they seem to have a much better stage presence, much more appreciative of the crowd and a real desire to please.
