I am taking a risk with Python - it could be embarrassing and it won't be as good as it used to be - but I took the same risk with countless other older bands. The Stones being the prime example. Plus this was cheap.

I was seriously tempted when the first gig was announced but eventually decided that the risk of completely destroying something that was absolutely brilliant when it was shiny new and outrageously funny was just rather too high. Old bands and good music almost always stand the test of time but I'm really not sure that comedy does or even can do. It's not like you can cheat a bit and/or have substitute players and all that if/when needed. I'd still love to be there just for the trip down memory lane and all that but equally I'm still more than a bit concerned that it may not be able to deliver the goods some 4 and a bit decades on I'm afraid. That's not to say that they're not all professionals or incapable of doing it, just that things change ... sometimes good memories are perhaps better remaining as real good memories rather than somehow attempting to recreate the past and potentially ending up with the old 'not as good as it used to be' problem

I managed to resist trying for tickets when they went on sale but I did wander over to have a look ages later. I couldn't help thinking circa £100 plus the usual add-ons was somewhat OTT to be honest. When I checked out of morbid curiosity I could even have bagged tix somewhere up in the gods - but at >£100 incl fees ? I don't think so ! No idea how you managed to get tix for £30 or where they might be but anything other than somewhere relatively near the stage or at least with a decent view didn't really seem worth bothering with to me considering that it's primarily visual comedy and all that. Hope you have seriously bl**dy good night though and whilst I'm way more than a bit jealous, at least Mr.Youtube is still my friend whenever I feel a bit of Python coming on and it never disappoints

Noticed that announcement this morning and my first thought was it's all going a bit Michael Jackson what with a single last chance saloon date becoming an ever growing schedule and all that All good stuff that the demand is there and that they're well up for it, just so long as going perhaps a bit OTT doesn't lead to it ending in anything even remotely close to a similar way of course ...

if they knew they were going to have theses dates i think they should have been straight up with fans and released these dates on day one i mean you cant just say to the O2 that oh we need more dates ..can you ??

Although I am on email lists for loads of ticket companies and O2 Priority I had zilch notice about the on sale date and still nothing for the extra five dated which go on sale tomorrow! I think this is bloody disgraceful.

BTW, I think you're dead right though. It does always seem more than a bit naughty to announce something *very* special and imply a 1-off but that then turns into a much longer run ... hence my MJ comment. Same thing happened there bigtime. A 1-off became a few dates became an entire month or so of dates but then rather sadly didn't happen at all of course. It's not that unusual though these days is it ? Similar thing with Roger Waters The Wall tour I think, extra and often better dates/venues appearing after swiftly sold out shows. I suppose no will ever know whether it's just a case of testing the ground to avoid potential embarrassment, a blatant promo/marketing ploy or simply someone grabbing a conveniently passing ca$h cow and milking it to death ... but either way it always feels way more than a bit naughty to me I'm afraid no matter who it is ! I just hope that everything goes amazingly well as it would be really sad to see anything less than glowing reviews after the event.

In fairness I saw John Cleese saying on BBC Breakfast they would put on more dates dependant on how ticket sales went for the first one. This was before the original sale.

Tried again for cheap seats this morning, none left on see or ticketmaster by 1 minute past. Can't really afford the £90+ ones what with all the other gig tickets bought recently! I'm still in the AXS waiting room so maybe I'll get lucky..

I love Python to bits (see username) but am finding it very hard to get excited about seeing them in their 70s in a massive venue like the O2, particularly at those prices. But am I going to regret it massively if I don't go and see them? Aarrrggghhh!

Ticket prices for 1st set of 5 gigs (base/with fees)

And heavens knows how they may also have messed around with the internal 'boundaries' between seat prices.

'Platinum' tickets - i.e all the floor seats and the best of the ones on the lower level - were all way more expensive - and that's direct from Ticketmaster, nevermind the secondary market.

I had a look and face value seats in block A2 (stage front and centre) were about £425 each.

I really have trouble, imagining being in the audience for The Parrot Sketch (for example) and remotely enjoying it. They'll need to come up with new punch lines and/or new sketches for this to be any good.
