Bjork

Top shelf of the Other Stage seems pretty grim at the moment - certainly moreso than the Pyramid for me. Ben Howard TBC and probably best suited for it, alt-j apparently offered it, Chemical Brothers are okay but back every few years and I wouldn't be surprised if the Friday they're all ruled out for is deadmau5.

Sorry this is the Bjork thread. If she wasn't any sort of Wilderness exclusive, maybe there's a chance she'll be at Green Man?

Sorry this isn't the Green Man thread either. How about them growlers?

I don't see her doing Green Man, I'll be overjoyed and furious at the same time if she does. Seeing Bjork twice would be a bonus, but I'm so destitute, I can't afford the extra £45 if she's already playing a fest I have tickets for (can't afford the extra £45 anyway, but fuck it).

but if it didn't come from Bjork why would they put that?

Promoters often seem to forget about Glasto with these sorts of claims, what with its unique ticket sales and announcement system. Like they look at everything that's been announced for a big act by March, go 'Oh, that must be it for them then, let's stick such-and-such tag on them', then their Glasto appearance gets revealed and they have to backtrack. Happened with the Black Keys exclusivity claim at Latitude last year.

Nah not the same. The Black Keys' exclusivity tag was withdrawn after about 15 minutes rather than any other announcement.

Manchester International Festival doesn't strike me as the usual sort of festival that would tell lies. It's not about 'exclusives' for them, it's about promoting new & unique work for the first time, that's their ethos. It was also where she chose to debut her 2011 show.

Face it folks, she isn't doing Glastonbury.

ah your right it is, that's pretty much the nail in the coffin for me :(

But would MIF even need to know about Bjork's other plans? Or would it just be a case of it being true 'at the time of press release' and the PR team putting it in.

It doesn't look great, but previously there's been a lot of statements from acts/festivals over the years which have been true before the Glastonbury line-up is announced.

P.S. Have MIF said this or was it in the MEN article posted above?

I'm a manchester student, am I a greater manchester resident on a lower wage?

I live in Manchester and only have my student loan to live on each year

Im trying to work out what that greater manchester resident on a lower wage is too. How do they check? I guess a student card qualifies?

Ah OK, should've guessed what with it being Melvin and everything :D. Maybe Courtney Barnett at Green Man this year is a better example?

That's not to say I think Bjork will do Glasto though, the fact she did the same at MIF for Biophilia is pretty damning. Just 'first European show' struck me as the sort of thing a promoter might've noticed as things stood, rather than actually got tied up in a contract.

there is a post code checker to see if you live in the right area

Once you go through that they say it's done on honesty, the define it as earning under 14k and if you can afford a full ticket you should leave the cheap tickets for other people

It's on an honesty basis, personally, I'm going to be honest, but it'll piss me off knowing that the majority of folks who get those tickets are mickey takers.

Edit to clarify, becuase there are some people in the world with shitty opinions of other people; by "mickey takers" I'm referring to the people who can afford the £45 tickets, but buy the £12 ones because they can get away with it. Working in the arts is not lucrative for most people, those £12 tickets will be for people who put on various artistic endeavors in the city for our enjoyment all year round. I commend the MIF for trying to make sure those people aren't priced out.

I think you're missing the point about MIF entirely. It's not a festival in the traditional music festival sense, it's a collection of new performances across the Manchester area. Bjork has chosen to debut her first European performance there, just like she did in 2011. Therefore, she will not be at Glastonbury. Hope that clears it up for you.

Well if it's worded like that it's quite clear! Didn't realise she did the same in 2011 too. Ah well, shame!

Well I believe it says if your salary is less than £13k or something. If you're a student, you don't really have a salary - unless it's part time work, in which case I don't know what the line is.

You could probably claim so but it's kind of against the spirit of what they're doing, in my opinion.

Going to be hammering the MIF ticket sale tomorrow. It's tempting to lie and get the £12 one, but that would make me scum, so I'll have to pay £45. Fuuuuuuuck I hope Latitude doesn't sell out before my next payday. It's a goddamn expensive month.

You'll have plenty of time to get your Latitude ticket after that line-up announcement, Lawn ;)

Shame about Björk and GF2015, mind...:(

I thought they were doing it for people who can't afford it which I can't with being a student
