Oh right, they're more popular than I imagined then. Probably because they've been out the spotlight the last year.

For a band that was only 2 or 3 years old, selling well at the O2 is a pretty big acheivement. You can't criticise them for not selling it out!

Any other potential step ups bar the Black Keys and maybe Florence? Suppose it all depends on future releases but I dunno who's got what in the pipeline

Vampire Weekend will totally do it at some point if they manage to put out another album as good as Modern Vampires.

I like how if a band doesn't sell every single ticket for a venue, they're not worthy of it.

By that reckoning, someone like Royal Blood should play The O2 as I reckon they're good enough to play that kind of venue. Wouldn't sell out but surely by going by your reasoning, they must be worthy of it...

If a band still had seated tickets available for every area of the venue and you could still get standing tickets, they clearly over-reached and weren't ready to play that size of venue. Is that not a logical stance to take? And I know this to be true for The Vaccines as I got my sister and her friends standing tickets from See on the day of the show.

No that's not my reckoning at all.

Also I would've thought selling the majority of tickets to a 20,000 venue was better than selling out Alexandra Palace.

I can't see vampire weekend ever headlining, they seem to have stagnated somewhat

Not really, they've done their first arena tour off the back of Modern Vampires and have effectively moved up a slot at R&L this year. They're just not very prolific tourers over here, so it gives the impression they haven't progressed.

I think they're on for headlining, but I agree they need to be putting out more singles like A-Punk, Cousins and Diane Young.

Apparently for The Vaccines at The O2 a lot of the seating was curtained off, I think the standing sold out in the end though; Vampire Weekend's seating was curtained off too although I don't think the standing sold out if I remember correctly

If I'm honest I don't think The Vaccines will play in 2015; I think if they're going to take the headline slot that they want they're going to need the momentum of the new album firmly behind them and I don't think R&L would risk booking them as a headliner on an album that might not do as well as expected

Can't ever see Vampire Weekend headlining, just not recognised enough, i know one of their songs, however they managed to play at the hydro (the biggest indoor music venue in Scotland)

Which would suggest they are recognised enough you just don't like them :P

Foos for T and Download next year I'm saying.

I used to think that after 2012, The Vaccines would be headlining the next time they played at R&L, but I can't see it now. I think they will sub the next time they play, and then go on to headline after that. Since they debuted and had all the hype surrounding them, there's been bands like Bastille, The 1975 and Royal Blood now who are just as hyped as The Vaccines were. It's whether or not people will care about them as much anymore when they bring the third album out.

You've definitely looked far too much into what he was saying :P

I do do that a lot :P haha

You're right I guess - I do still think they totally over-reached playing the biggest arena in the country. The same goes for Two Door last year.

Didn't Two Door sell it out?

I don't think so as I was still contemplating getting a ticket the week of the show but decided against it as it was my father's birthday and there were still tickets on See but for the life of me, I don't remember if there were standing or how many areas of seated you could choose from left.

    • If the below link works - thats interesting.   While I don't particularly put much stock in that account as a source (never seen it before though, tbf), and I can pick a hole or two (see below) in what he says - the timing of it is a week before I had the Fontaines '27 stadium info (same stadium he says on there, Tottenham). The info, or part of it, matches up.   Holes I'd pick: I'd have to watch again but I THINK he says 'end of year' for Tottenham - not possible, for a number of reasons, though he's probably just got his words mixed up there. It's Summer '27. He also says Glastonbury is/would be based on how the album does. That doesn't stack up to me, unless it was a 2028 thing. I suppose that could stack up, but still seems a bit of an odd approach. I would personally still expect it to be 2027 alongside the stadium gigs, IF they are gonna do it, though I've still not got a Scooby when the album is gonna drop, only that the tour is due for Spring (or early) next year.   Interesting, nonetheless.   https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaOB3Q9qkwW/
    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
