Rolling Stones - never seen them before - went in with fairly low expectations and they blew me away

Ricky Ross - beautiful stripped down versions of Deacon Blue classics and his new stuff

First Aid Kit - how have they passed me by before now? Awesome harmonies

Kenny Rogers - what a professional!

Jake Bugg (Acoustic Tent) - just him and his guitar, as it should be

Honourable mentions to The Proclaimers for sheer singalong joy and Ed Harcourt for just being a bit different.

Annoyed I didn't get to the Lumineers or Alabama Shakes.

*EDIT* Dammit - I forgot Chic. Don't make me limit it to 5.....!!!

In no particular order mine would be,

The Hives - What a contrast after Beady Eye. Tick...Tick Boom!

Chic - The whole of West Holts were dancing like maniacs.

The Stones - Could they pull it off? Hell yes, good old fashioned rock n roll.

Kenny Rogers - The way he turned the crowd around on a Sunday afternoon was something quite special, as was hearing What condition my condition was in live.

Johnny Marr - Big Mouth Strikes Again, Getting away with it, How Soon is Now, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out was more than enough to keep everyone in the John Peel tent dancing and to make my top 5.

Special mention to Of Monsters and Men who took me by surprise along with Emmanuel Jal who I discovered in Leftfield by accident and he had everyone dancing in no time.

1. Phoenix. Absolutely stormed the John Peel Stage, including the lead singer crowd surfing to the metal tent structure, climbing it, and then crowd surfing back to the stage.

2. Alt-J. Really good set on the Other Stage which included a Dr Dre 'Still Dre' instrumental/Kylie Minogue mash up.

3. Everything Everything (Williams Green). Loved the smaller stage and both the band and crowd were right up for it. Had my photo taken with the lead singer after watching Deap Vally.

4.Enter Shikari. Cheeky mosh pit in an Alan Partridge mask.

5. Editors. One of the few bands that I know the words too. Played a great set and I also quite liked the new material.

Hon mentions:- Two Door Cinema Club, Deap Vally & New Build.

1. The XX - Their stagemanship and the way they turn their music into something to play to an audience is absolutely perfect. I like them as a band, but I wasn't even particularly intent on seeing them going into the festival. Textbook stuff. Jamie XX in particular is the absolute boy.

2. Solange - There wasn't a man in that field who wasn't in love with her for that hour.

3. Arctic Monkeys - I wish I could remember more, but I know I spent the entire set screaming every word. As expected.

4. Dinosaur Jr. - J Mascis performs an absolute art. Was front and center.

5. Devendra Banhart - Perfect in the searing heat with a pint in my hand. Might be my enduring memory of the festival.

In this order:

1. Nick Cave. Absolutely blew my mind, and seriously disturbed the delicate sensibilities of thousands of Mumfords fans. Hahahaha!

2. The Stones. Apart from the rather limp phoenix 'effect' they put on a great show.

3. Lucy Rose at the Avalon Stage. Beautiful voice, great band, terrific atmosphere. She also seemed genuinely surprised and humbled by the size of the crowd who'd turned out, and their response to the set.

4. Ricky Ross at the Acoustic Tent. Great mix of stripped down oldies and new material. Bumped into him and his son, who were camped in the same field as us, later that day and said thanks. He seemed really pleased. He's not nearly as intense and precious as he used to seem, now he's playing what he likes, rather than churning out pop hits.

5. The Hives. I was aiming to see the TBA on the Other stage on Friday, but my watch was broken so I turned up in time for The Hives. Having now found out it was Beady Eye, I'm glad I missed it, because even as a lifelong Man City fan, I simply can't ignore the fact that Liam Gallagher is an utter bellend. Anyway, The Hives were great. Terrific energy, even in an early slot. If they'd swapped with Primal Scream, Saturday night would've been even better.

Honourable mentions to Palma Violets, The Staves, Elvis Costello, The 1975 and Mik Artistik too.

Chic - "Celebrate Good Times, Come ON! Do do-bee do!" Just fantastic on West Holts, did anyone else notice that Seasick Steve and his drummer (didn't notice JPJ but he might have been there) had stayed in the wings and were dancing like mad eejits?

Rolling Stone - it was indeed only rock and roll but I liked it, liked it, yes I did.

The Beat (Williams Green) - If you missed them you missed an absolute treat RUDE BOYS!

The Destroyers (Avalon) - Mental dancing and energy in the Brucie warm-up slot. Wanted to see them at Croissant-Neuf as well but I was beaten by the one way system. Buggrit.

Seth Lakeman (Acoustic) - I struggle to understand why he has not moved into the mainstream ala Mumford's? Better jiggingness and prettier yet he seems to be labelled as "Folk" and they as "Indie". Stupid labels...
