Arry talking bonkers as normal.

This isn't about them giving the England job to me or Roy Hodgson, but English football being run by people who really haven't got a clue - and they get to pick the England manager," he said.

"Everyone said I was the people's choice, the only choice. All the senior players seemed to be up for me to get the job.

"I got quite a few text messages at the time from players saying they would love me to manage England: Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry.

"But the FA went for Roy Hodgson to be the England manager - a man who is more their cup of tea."

Since when were fans or players the most qualified people to suggest a national team manager. You would think Arry was Brian Clough the way he talks about himself. The FA had to choose between a load of managers who had won very little and made their choice.

I'd agree he's better than Cleverley, but, well....

And I don't think Cleverley should be better than first team anyway.

Ramsey last season was pretty poor. Credit to Wenger for sticking with him and getting him to the level he's at now (although I'm sure his goals will drop off, I think his overall play has still been excellent).

And yeah, Podolski/Henderson is an odd comparison, but I know which I'd say warrants mocking more. I don't actually think any of your midfielders have been particularly bad over the last 15 months, the problem is that none have been outstanding or particularly impressive either.

Who would your choice of mockable Liverpool player be?

Interesting comments from Tony Evans on the times podcast saying that Rodgers no longer has final say on signings but is part of the comittee that discusses them. Does anyone know who is in charge of transfers at liverpool now? I personally think its a good idea having someone outside the manager in charge of player recruitment, with managers changing so often it adds some stability.

I think it's a very old fashioned idea that the manager does everything. They should certainly have a say in player transfers, but if you have a rapid turnover, is it better that managers make all those decisions and there's endless changes of the squad (say to the degree Di Canio revamped the Sunderland squad), or is it better that there's another team that's involved to maintain continuity?

Managers aren't trusted nowadays, and are blamed. Having some responsibility elsewhere shifts the focus and can help the club.

    • Not my experience. I've always got the size I paid for.
    • Kind of crackers how fast this summer seems to be sailing by. But aye, must be some news soon!
    • I am very possibly wrong about this but I do think that the pitch you get allocated appears to be related to your time of arrival, (i.e. you get the next one available) rather than the price you paid for a small, medium or large pitch.  They all appear to be the same size to me.
