Rivalry is still alive and well despite the gap between the two sides these days...

Might have been these guys..

I have it on good authority, that there is nothing under the pitch, but that there is in the board room wall.

The usual excuse are being pandered by Arsene. It's a difficult market, We only want quality players. It's the same old tosh every year. Any other PL club would have wrapped up the higuan deal weeks ago. He also has the front to suggest to united that they are wasting their time chasing Cesc. He should be concentrating on getting us the 4 minimum players we require to slot in to the first team not more promise and signing 20 year old French youngsters with a questionable injury record.

Don't think Cesc coming back is the answer however there are a lot of players out there available who would vastly improve our squad and it appears we are going through the motions as we have done for the last 10 years. Haven't been excited about one of our summer signings since Sol signed.

Genuinely thought that with the managerial merry go round in the Premiership we would show a positive intent this summer. As Roger Daltrey said many years ago-we wont get fooled again. He was wrong -We have been!

Fuck sake. From the man who signed Andy Carroll for 35m.

Amateur night at LFC. See that pic of Ian Ayre on Robbie Fowlers shoulders too?!

Amateur? He's only said the sort of thing that many people might think. Given the high prices of exceptional players, it's far from outlandish to think £40M is taking the piss - especially when there's lots of talk of Utd about to bid £80M for Bale.

(that aside, it's simply a part of the negotiation process, and no more amateurish than Fergie's "I wouldn't sell them a virus" - said at about the time he agreed to sell them that player).

As for the Carroll thing, if Ashley hiked the price up by £10M at the last minute as LFC have said (and it's not been denied by Newc), and LFC then managed to screw Chelsea for another £10M for Torres (as claimed by LFC, and not denied by Chelsea), then that makes Carroll a £25M purchase in just about all respects.

While that £25M is with hindsight far too much (I'd say that WHU have been mugged in paying £15M for him now), it's not a hugely unrealistic price for him as things stood at that time - he was the big new English hope.

Hardly professional behaviour from a club owner? And the MD too?! With 10s of millions in the mixer?

All for a bit of fun but LFC aren't really in a position to be doing that at the moment. Trying to attract better players - despite no Champions League - and not looking very serious about doing it.

What's the clause all about? I thought they had to accept the bid once the bid hit over 40m? That's what arsenal offered, so can't see the problem.

It seems the clause just means they have to tell Suarez about the bid, everyone knew anyway.

It's funny how you didn't say anything like this when a certain someone was taking the piss in a far more unprofessional way over a MUCH bigger spend.

That of course has nothing to do with blinkers.

eh? I've been hugely surprised (from the rumours in papers, anyway) at how much money LFC are supposedly happy to spend yet again this window. I'd been expecting almost nothing available for spending.

They've made some big offers for some very good players - and while most (if not all) of those haven't come off (yet), they're more than a bit stuffed in getting the top level players they might be wanting by the fact of not having Chumps footie.

And of course, taking the piss out of what is considered to be a derisory offer has no impact on any buying. Or would you say that Utd's buying was affected by fergie's piss taking?

yep, it's the second part (from the paper's reports, anyway). It's a fairly standard clause (for the better players, at least) from reports over many years.

What the "virus" comment? That was negotiating. This is referring to drug taking. A little bit different. Fergie was the manager too. Not the owner.

Oh c'mon ... it's just an expression, no different to fergie's. It's no less of a negotiating (or a "fuck off and don't make another offer") tactic.

Taken literally, both are a gross insult. But neither are meant literally, and anyone would have to be a moron to take them that way.

As for the manager/owner thing, that's to do with the differences in how both clubs are run, how involved each owner is, and how involved in buying and selling the manager is. Henry has from the moment he bought LFC been very involved at all levels, while Glazer or his offspring are hardly involved at all at Utd.
