Coping with the heat

So it's Saturday morning, you've been on a bender since Wednesday afternoon and the Sun is blazing. You wake up, mouth like Ghandis flip flop and your tent is an oven.

How do you cope? The one thing that made me think twice about going to Glastonbury again was that I couldn't escape the torture that was the relentless Sun, when I'm desperately hungover.

This thing was a god send:

But what else can I do to cool down/get refreshed when the heat is on?

It's about time Glastonbury has a lake put in, like at Secret Garden Party Party! What do you think?

A lake is a great idea. Would save all those idiots queuing up for hours at a time at the taps to spend 10 minutes washing their hair too.

The sun over the past few days of the festival in 2009 and being woken at 8am in a tent like a sauna after being up till 4 the nights before made my wife tell me that if I was going to drag her there again we were either doing it in a camper van or in a teepee. Well I'd always wanted a camper so that was all the excuse I needed and a few months later one was sat on our drive. We've never looked back and it made the relentless sun in 2010 so much easier to cope with.

Take a gallon container of Cider..... drink the cider .... fill the container with water..... put container under ground sheet..... wake up in the morning with hangover get up pour water over yer head....... no more hangover you smell better and are wide awake.... bobs yer auntie.... fannys yer uncle and all is right with the world.

Drinking water first thing in the morning works for me plus leaving my tent as soon as i wake up to get away from the humidity

Dress accordingly, keep the liquid levels up, wear plenty of suncream, have an ice lolly every few hours.

You can buy hats and scarves with special water holding crystals sewn in. You soak your garment in water. The crystals turn to gel, you put the garment on and it keeps you cool. I used such a hat when hiking in Utah; where it really does get warm. I've seen the scarves in the UK.

My hat looks a tad silly, so I won't bring it to G, but, unlike Whisters, I don't get the vapours whenever the sun comes out.

I've used those scarves before in Egypt and Tunisia while in the desert. Now that's heat. Couldn't be arsed bringing to Glasto though, dampening a normal scarf would probably do it.
