"He recalled watching the Who's rain-soaked performance from 2011 "

That was 2007

"Based on fancy CFS models, using Met Office numbers"

The CFS model is run by the the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction and has nothing to do with the Met Office.

"Both of these are closer to the prediction by Jackone, a climatology nerd at Netweather, who files a detailed weekly analysis of the latest meteorological data."

I express no meaningful opinion, but I would say he could file an action for defamation - libel. A lawyer could argue the words used tend to lower the claimant in the eyes of right-thinking members of society (Sim v Stretch).

He is highly thought of amongst people on this forum, and this statement has lead to people thinking less of him. William Roach sued Newsgroup Newspapers in 1992 for describing him as "boring". This is comparable.

We're all nerds here. We're on an internet chatroom instead of being out interacting with real people.

Be proud.

( i only raised the Nerd comment earlier for a laugh, and I'm sure Jackone would have seen the funny side as well!)

It's not comparable - William roach is an actor who has an economic interest in not being seen as boring.

Pure insults aren't libellous.

It's also unlikely that jackone would have the financial wherewithal to sue, although I wouldn't claim to know or be interested in his finances.

Ultimately, the guy above is right and this is an entirely pointless discussion. Sorry for disagreeing in the first place, I'm a defamation law graduate student so its guaranteed to grab my attention, but I shouldn't rise to it because nobody cares.

Peace?
