Future Headliners?

Can really see enter shikari headlining in lets say 5 years time?

to be honest, in 5 10 - 15 years time they'l probably have brand new weird bands headlining that are still playing pubs right now.

I just thought the original estimate might genuinely be close. But now I can see it's more a decade till you can headline the mainstage per average. That's pretty cool.

just like how 5 years ago, Eminem, Biffy Clyro and ______ were.

or Foo Fighters, The Cure and Kasabian were.

or Muse, MCR and The Strokes were.

or Blink 182, Arcade Fire and Guns N' Roses were.

That's actually pretty interesting, none of them were really.

If you look a bit further back though there are plenty of examples of bands headlining two or three years after their debut album, in fact The Strokes first headlined the year after theirs was released. I'm not sure if this represents a change in booking policy, or is down to guitar music generally not being as popular, resulting in bands not becoming as big so quickly. It is quite interesting though.

I really don't understand people on this forum being convinced that QOTSA will eventually headline. They've been kicking about the high slots at festivals for about ten years now, surely if they were to release that album that boosts them to headliner status they would have done it by now? They're another Placebo, a band who you can always rely on to turn up and fill a high slot at a fest if needed, but I don't think they'll put an album out that will be bigger than Songs For The Deaf.

Im the same QOTSA will for me will headline one day if its after the new album or the next one. Got everything they need; back catalogue, good fanbase and a awesome lead singer!

They've played high slots for a while but I don't think there's ever been a time they were headlining major festivals all over Europe - before it's pointed out that doesn't mean anything in UK, they're likely to be headlining Rock Ness, which have had/will have had The Strokes, Kasabian, Biffy and maybe Mumfords headline the year prior to headlining R+L.

The Songs for the Deaf thing is a bit pointless, that's the album that propelled them into a widespread conciousness, they didn't go up to sub until after Lullabies to Paralyze. And SFTD had the Dave Grohl effect, which will have had somewhat of an impact on that and it will have an impact on album no. 6.

I don't know if it's just because I'm a big fan or not but I firmly believe they'll headline next year off the back of the new album.

Plus they fully deserve it, they are so tight live and always keep every single album completely fresh! Every album is solid throughout and I fucking love them.

QOTSA are one album away from headlining. If their next album is as good is it possibly can be (and with like of Olivari and Lanegan on board it probably will be) then I can see no reason why they wouldn't get offered the slot.

Good news! If they're about this summer, they'd be a quality choice for an NME headliner.

I think the Blackout seem to have got the right image and commercial ambition for a push to the top. Personally though I think they suck.

Black Keys who I saw a few years ago as relative unknowns. Have they kept the bassist or not?

More hope than anything else but for me Band of Skulls could make a huge surge in popularity with one more good album. I really like their stuff.

Pendulum coming back are a given.
