Why doesn't Reading try and get some bands who haven't already played big gigs the year before? Might help them sell out a little quicker! If they'd had The Cure, Foo Fighters and Kasbian in 2011 I'd imagine they would have fared much better! 2010 was the last time they had had 3 headliners that hadn't already done the rounds.

I know it's not as simple as that but potentially we could end up with a lineup that looks like Blur/The Killers/Pearl Jam which on paper looks great, in reality, The Killers aren't my cup of tea and I saw Blur and Pearl Jam this year...if I hadn't then I'd snap up a ticket. Come on Reading, suprise me!

True.... but then again V managed it this year, so did Isle of Wight as did Sonisphere (before it got cancelled) and Download/TITP and Even Bestival!

If you really wanted to see Blur/The Killers/The Stone Roses/Pearl Jam etc etc, chances are you already did this year so unless you were a mega fan, would they be as much of a draw to you this year, they'd all be doing pretty much the same sets.

Foo Fighters,The Cure, Kasabian, The Strokes, Muse.... all did big shows the year before they did Reading.

It depends on your policy - proper exclusives and repeat headliners or neither. R&L has never repeated it's headliners as rapidly as the likes of T and V but that means that their pool is smaller.

The Killers may not have been around last year they've now headlined V three times in six years - I'd rather have a band headlining Reading that played a different festival the year before rather than having the same band headline Reading three times in six years.

One of T's headliners were the same as 2010 and another playing for the third time in six years, again I'd rather have headliners from other festivals the year before than have the same headliners come back so frequently just to be able to say that they weren't around the year before.

If you raise V and T for The Stone Roses along that's a bit of an anomoly, is was very unlikely from the strat that they would play R&L due to their manager/promoter's ties to V.

IOW had a good trio if you're into that sort of thing but have always been more open and adventurous, and Bestival certainly don't play by the same conservative rules when it comes to booking headliners. However I certainly wouldn't use Soni as a shining example, sure they were adventurous but it's a perfect example of what can go wrong if you're too adventurous and try and move too far away from the norm or your perceived standard demographic (I think this is what FR are fearful of).

Whether their policy of not repeating headliners but having the same ones as other festivals from the previous year is better than repeating more often I don't know, it seems like their strategy is to concentrate on fostering loyalty and avoiding repeat headliners in their own line-up for those who go every year rather than worrying about what people may have seen at other festivals the year before.

I never understand this argument as people who go to see bands at thier own shows must be fans of the act so why wouldn't they want to see the same band next year? If it was Metallica or Kasabain I can understand as they are constantly playing fests.

blur playing primavera aswell, must be doing a uk fest as well!

I've heard that they have no intention of doing UK fests, but I've got to say I find that hard to believe.

Then again I said something similar about Mumfords for this year, but in the end what I was told held true.

    • Likelihood is it'll be on Sunrise and Alcove but theres potential for some more in the tent as there have been 8 acts on some days in recent years. Obelisk is likely full now unless they have a few shorter sets thrown in   Im surprised they haven't had some secret sets thrown into the mix this time round unless they do and we find some gaps in the schedule is released
    • I see that Your Party has officially split, another Corbyn leadership disaster.
    • Saturday notes:   MARINA - absolute highlight, a proper diva, I'm so glad I skipped the headliners for her. Also, the crowd was beautiful, no yapping, no pushing, just enjoying the music together. Primavera crowd at its best.   Ninajirachi - One would say that at the end of the last day of the festival, they must have told each other everything, right? Not really. There was still SO MUCH MORE to say. Primavera crowd at its worst. It was completely packed and someone was constantly pushing themselves through the crowd. It was quite difficult to enjoy the set, even though I love her music.   Olivia Rodrigo - The teasing, the speculations, finally the confirmation and the first reactions of people! When I was showing the "tweet" to my partner, there was a young girl standing behind us who asked me very politely if she could see it and if it is really happening here tonight and after she finally processed it, she had the cutest "Holy. sh*t." reaction. Few minutes later, when refilling the water, I almost lost it when another girl beside me started screaming "Oh my god! Oh my god! No way! Oh my god!", staring into her phone. And then also Robert Smith came. I must admit I'm not familiar with Olivia's songs (but I'm planning to change it) and can't really say I loved the set itself, but I absolutely loved the whole Olivia Rodrigo experience.
