This is just something I want to throw out there...

there are a group of 20 girls from my school going to reading this year, and some said to me today they hardly know any bands on the lineup, and when I asked about green day they said "Oh that emo band right". They said "who" when I said system of a down, and they only knew one alt-j song.

So I asked them, why are you going to reading?

"they said, because the best act that has ever walked this earth is headlining, eminem!"

Look, you can choose not to believe it if you want, you can choose to argue with me but I know i'm right, there are an awful lot of people going, who don't give a fuck about anyone else but eminem. This girl that's going asked if there was going to be any more hip hop artists...

This is a reason why I'm not going this year, the lineup is good but nothing that grabs me, i'm going to glasto instead. But I have a feeling that the reading crowd is going to be much much different, and I only hate to think what the eminem crowd will be like, not even kidding this girl who I was speaking to didn't know any biffy clyro songs!

Eminem will undoubtedly get the biggest crowd of the weekend, stop trying to trick yourselves otherwise by thinking "you'd be suprised yadadadada".

Ok, but I would say all 3 are headliner worthy and you have a pop punk legend, a rap pop legend, and a stadium rock soon to be legend. That's varied, as for the rest of the lineup, it is varied but because there's not 1000 indie bands people are getting their knickers in a twist

I disagree with all of that, but virtually everything I want to say has been said on here over the past day and further back, and on the facebook pages and twitter, etc. I wrote a really long post, but realised it was virtually the same as everything that been said. Ever. Anywhere.

You're not allowed to disagree. Green day are pop punk legends, headline festivals all over, but admittedly past their peak. Still doesn't mean they are probably the biggest pop punk band in modern times. Eminem is the biggest rapper in modern times, most successful ever too, and headlines festivals all over. Biffy are at the top of their game and are being given a fantastic opportunity.

As for the rest, there's dance, dubstep, pop, pop punk, industrial, indie, and harder rock there. Hardcore will come in lock up. Thats pretty varied, and there will be more to come? I've seen some of the posts but I don't think anyone has disagreed with all of this.

Granted though, if you don't like heavier rock, the top 3 on Friday and Sunday will put you off, and if you don't like dance/pop then so will Saturday. Basically if you only like indie, you won't like it, and that's fine.

I disagree that he's not allowed to disagree.

Also:

I like heavier rock. I only like 4 of the heavier rock mainstage bands. I like dance, I don't like anything booked. I like hip hop, I don't like anything booked.

I think virtually every band booked could be described as 'pop' without stretching the definition too far.

Finally caught up with this thread. So far there's 10 acts I want to see, but they're almost all main stage so I'll avoid clashes and be busy most of the time. Bought my ticket.

System of a Down

Deftones

Frank Turner

Foals

White Lies

Tame Impala

Biffy Clyro

Nine Inch Nails

Editors

Johnny Marr

opening act maybe?

    • My party again had an outstanding 4 days in Barca. We made the right call to leave the festival site early at about 10.30 on Thursday to get ourselves some excellent steaks in the city. I am with everyone that the organization should have been clearer about what is going on and also if you would like to get rid of some attendees open more exits, they sent us from gate to gate until we finally were able to get out. Biggest 'disappointment' was the beer price, a YoY increase from 5 to 6 is absolutely nuts!!! (i am living in Switzerland so me making this comment says something 🙂)   Top 10:   1. Men I Trust 2. Role Model (could have been first as well, what a great artist and great songs) 3. The XX 4. The cure (the last 90 minutes) 5. Gorillaz 6. MBV 7. Ninajirachi (another big miss of the organization, clearly on the wrong podium and wonder if Olivia's surprise set had something to do with that and they had to reschuffle late the Occident, Cupra and Port schedules) 8. NewDad 9. Big Thief 10. Annastashia      We did 3 years Barca now and for next year looking at the Porto or Bilbao festivals as an option.
    • Personally if it was me now, I would be grabbing a green camping ticket with the knowledge closer when I've refreshed that I can still choose general if I want to....you can't do the opposite!    I would say if you are happy to watch your headliners and big bands further back to be able to see who you actually plan to later then yes it is fine. Its a much difference experience to any other festival especially food wise and camping surrounds.    Once you're in the arena as well you're not going back unless you've got a gap. If I go again I'll be going with the option of not trying to push the front and enjoying further back as you actually put too much pressure on it than the time take away can forget to enjoy other acts.
    • No complaints about the sound. We were like 2nd set of steps facing stage right in like the middle row.
    • On the whole then, yay or nay...I've had a look on festivals united and there's people who seem converted by Rock Im Park, I can imagine it might be different if it was a washout as RaR is tarmac.   The hotel side would be more to convince the non campers if it's an option. On my first visit to rock am ring we were shuttled into the area where you could stick the car next to the tent which was fantastic as it meant zero lugging of camping gear.
