Yeah that's a pretty solid argument; I don't think it's the most likely but you've convinced me a fair bit.

On the flipside though you could argue that as they've got heavy headliners their NME headliners will be more indie, so the "heavy" headliner won't be too heavy, a la Placebo/Manics/My Bloody Valentine.

System rather than Sabbath as a headliner would get me there. Yes, I know, I'm a heathen etc. I just don't give a shit about Sabbath, and I think System may possibly be a bigger draw. Could be completely wrong there, but back in the day when I was in school, all the METULZ kids had System t-shirts and knew who they were, Black Sabbath not so much.

Ok I haven't read anything since Neil said Biffy for Reading but fuck yeah! Thought it was pretty damn obvious they were gonna do it... seems all the crap arguments about their tour being too close to announce date are probably wrong.

So even if Foals are the heavy headliner, how many indie acts of that size will be touring next year? The 3rd is more likely to be an electro headliner in the same vein as Justice this year I think. Chase and Status? The only problem with that though is all the new dance stages and stuff. I can't think of any act other than Chase and Status around the right size to do it

Eminem/Biffy would need either a jaw dropping third headliner (Rolling Stones or The Who) or the greatest undercard ever to get my ticket money this year, which is a shame as there would of been 5 in a row for me.

No interest in Eminem at all and have seen Biffy 3 times now and each time have found them to be so dull, i've never managed to stay for a whole set and the prospet of a longer one is just depressing. If SOD play will get a day ticket but thats it.

Bit off topic for a sec :P

I'm doing a spotify playlist for a NYE party tonight- is there a more rocky or more dancey version of Auld Lang Syne around?

I'm sure someone who played Reading last year did a more rocky version but I can't remember who? (That's how I'm justifying posting this here :P)

    • Madonna lived in the UK for absolutely ages and I think is still largely London-based at the moment.  I'm sure she'll be well aware.     But it wouldn't need to be either / or.  Lots of acts do both  - Glastonbury for the hype and BST for the pay.
    • There is a chance that Norton's reaction was very much like our reaction, because people in this country tend to think 'big = Glastonbury'.   Having said that, though, I'm fairly sure they've gone for her again this time, and it's broken down. Whether it's only just broken down or not, I'm not sure, but I'd air on the side of - they thought they had her, up to a certain point.
    • Yeah, I did wonder if they might be getting too big for Piece Hall now. Wet Leg did Castlefield this year and were subbing them at Tramlines. Wishful thinking! I'd happily see them do another outdoor headline in the north of England, wherever it might be (except R+L, which I'm def too old for now 😂)
    • You've certainly got a bunch of American acts who absolutely adore the festival and are willing to bring peanuts for it. You can never discount The Killers on that basis.
    • Law unto herself, Madge. But I think, for a certain generation, Hyde Park still has a touch of mystery and magic - that and Wembley Stadium.
