DP came higher on a poll vote than Blur. You'd be interested how many want to see DM. 2nd night at o2 went on sale very quickly as the 1st sold out very quickly.

Based on that you can count DP as a big booking

I'll make one last comment on SOAD... I don't know why people think they will sub... they are clearly not a subbing band anymore... I can totally understand the not playing argument but they really don't need to accept a sub slot anywhere now... Plus they had one of the biggest crowds I have seen at Download and that was against a huge second stage headliner in Alice Cooper... they have the fanbase...

As far as record sales etc metal bands don't really get platinum records over here in the UK (other than Linkin Park)... Black Sabbath don't even have a platinum record in the UK... Slipknot don't (and they have headlined three fests in recent years)... Metallica and Iron Maiden only have 5 between the two of them (consider how many albums they have released and that they are probably the two biggest metal acts of all time)... Rammstein haven't even had a gold album over here and yet they play huge arena tours and headline UK fests... none of these bands play sub slots at UK fests anymore I very much doubt SOAD would.

SOAD would easily do an arena tour if they toured the UK now... they don't need to take a sub slot at Reading. I would argue they are easily one of the biggest metal acts of the modern era. I would also argue System would be much more suited to headlining Reading than Black Sabbath... I know most of my friends who love Foos, Blink 182, Green Day etc love System.

Ps I don't think they are going to play anyway... if they do any UK fest this year it will be Soni imo

Sabbath have got a platinum album and have the iconic status which means they must be headliners but for all the other bands you have mentioned headlining UK fests they have all been at metal fest not fests in the ilk of R&L and playing arens doesn't mean they are headliner sized as bands as low down as 5th on R&L mainstage can/have played arenas.

My major point has been why they wouldn't sub at Reading... I'm not trying to convince people they will headline Reading... like you said these bands can headline UK fests... so why wouldn't they stay at these festivals? Anyway I still believe people are underestimating the popularity of SOAD... I mean people are suggesting Deftones to play third from top and then expecting a band like SOAD who are much much bigger to take the slot just above them on the lineup... plus people have actually been suggesting Weezer to sub Reading also again a band arguably much smaller than System of a Down in the UK. It'd be ridiculous to suggest Weezer headlining Download yet a band who has headlined there twice are expected to take the same slot they would supposedly get at Reading... it makes no sense. Again I say I don't think System of a Down will play Reading but really don't see why they would take a sub spot if they did play unless it was booked as an Ozzfest day or something and SOAD were co headliners with Sabbath.

I've not been making a case for System to headline or sub, I've just been poking in holes in people's argeuments but the same reason why people think Weezer or Deftones will get higher spots than they really would is the same reason other people have been saying System would headline, they are fans and fans think they are bigger than they actually are.

I get that but I try not to... I'm a huge fan of Deftones and I'm one of the few who reckons they won't move up in the lineup... People are stating bands like Smashing Pumpkins and FNM to sub... two of my fave bands and yet I legitimately don't think they will sub because I dont think they would get the sort of crowd needed for those slots.. like I don't think SOAD will sub... not because they're one of my fave bands but because I think they have better options and are probably too big... I'd rather SOAD play sub than not at all but don't see it happening... like I would love Pumpkins and FNM to play but don't think they will... same with Pixies, NIN etc

    • sub yes I could see but I don't think they get 1hr 15, a headliner starting at 18:15 though is unlikely. Even the recent co-headlines that have had like 1hr 15 then a 1hr 30 after were on 8pm or just before, you are trailing behind more than 1.5 hours then. In that scenario some 3rd down bands are only starting at 18:15 and some haven't lol. I agree they won't not book them due to this but it won't be 6 headliners. It would be 5 headliners and you wouldn't want to see 5 headliners booked but Biffy were to not be thouhgt of as an option for one. Wolf Alice on the other hand could sub no bother and you'd think nothing of it. I'm not so sure Biffy would get headline though after the festival choice in Kendal this year.
    • Definitely. UKIP also used Merkel welcoming 1 million Afgans to Europe in 2015 during the brexit vote.   Politicians in other countries within the EU know the are going to lose voters to parties to the right of them over stuff like this and they've no control over it.
    • I think it will very much vary on who there is to book who they know will sell out a day.    They’ve co-headline and full headline stuff in future, there no reason at all they won’t do it again, even if it means cutting someone’s set by 15 mins or having a band less in a big bands day…   They’re not going to not book Foo fighters and instead get the equivalent of Florence and C&S just to not have a band do a big set…   …unless of course they think it will make them more money…
    • Maybe some right wing leaders like Meloni are just playing to their base, like Reform have been here talking about them ending up at Calais.
