I think The xx will be the dancey headliner, despite them not really being a conventional dance act. I'd say Chase and Status are probably too big for the NME now, it'd be rammed. And also, despite them playing Download, I don't really think they fit at R&L.

Jesus Christ please god no to Skrillex pure gash.

I'd take Chase & Status as NME headliner, their really no bigger than justice and unless they headline an outdoor stage would work better. Against the big headliner (E.g. Justice Vs. Foo's this year) would work easily. I guess it depends if they release a new album and go stellar with their size.

i don't think they are though.

they were considered a weak sub at download, and aren't that popular amongst R and L clientèle.

They are much bigger at V festival, and they headlined the 3rd stage last year.

In fairness their popularity has increased considerably since they'd have been booked In that position at V.

And Justice would definitely be considered a weak sub at a fest the size of Download. Especially one not suited to their genre of music.

Justice are much (much, much... much) more critically acclaimed and hyped than C&S but C&S have more general approval 'cause they're more accessible.

Chase and Status are probably bigger, but they're also amazingly crap.

Justice are a good choice for a NME headliner because 1) they're very good & 2) this year is their first year back in the UK for a while. Had they headlined 2nd stage at V (for example) last year, it would probably be a weaker choice.

Anyway, I just watched Bloc Party at Open'er live stream and they were pretty average. Really hope they don't headline/sub...

Surely the highest they can expect is sub? It wouldn't surprise me to see them as the Friday night NME 'indie' headliner though as their lasers would be pretty good in the tent. I would probably watch them for Helicopter and Flux then go see someone else.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
