Who instead then?

Taking two specific examples this week, If I was WBA, I'd pick Steve Clarke, over Hughton.

Obviously it's hard to discuss without mentioning specifics, but there aren't many lower league managers who excelled to the point of being in with a higher job. Nobody in the Championship stood out other than perhaps Adkins and McDermott, who would be unlikely to leave anyway, League One you have Charlton who went up anyway, and Stevenage, who are arguably in a very strong position to go up next year anyway, and League 2 you have Swindon, Shrewsbury and Crawley, who all went up, and then AFC Wimbledon.

Just got back from America, but from the very little I've seen Rodgers has handled himself well enough. I'd like Siggurdson, however you spell it. Apart from that I can't really judge too much, just wish him luck!

I would pick Hughton over Clarke, even if he doesnt convince me he has some track record as a manager. If your looking at the championship I would have picked both Poyet and Mackay over Clarke, limitted managerial experience but still better than none. If I was going for a young, up and coming manager I would have picked Karl Robinson from MK dons, very good win rate, experience at liverpool and blackburn and a track record working with youth. While I like the idea of giving young british manager a chance, to me the most qualified man seemed to be the German bloke whos name I forgot.

As a premiership chairman I would never ask someone who had never managed before to manage my team. If there was a great record of success from other assistant managers then you would consider it, however most have been complete failiures. If Im selecting a manager then I want to see someone who has managed, bo guarantee of success but a good starting point. Its possible Clarke may do a good job but to me looking at what has happened in similar situations in the past it seems a gamble I wouldnt take.

In League 2 though, which is completely, 100% different from the Premiership. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you a Wrexham fan? In which case you must have seen how bad some of the lower league managers are, and how they'd have no chance in higher divisions. Having League 2 experience is as good as having no experience in the Premiership.

While Robinson's win rate may look good, if you've seen how his team play, there's no way it would transfer. I wouldn't say Poyet really excelled, and I'm sure Mackay wold prefer a crack at next season.

At the end of the day, it seems we differ in thinking how much the difference from the top league to lower leagues actually is. I'd argue that while League 1 and League 2 are very similar, the Championship is completely different to both.

HMRC reject the CVA even though that would give them more money...

Can't help but think they are right to do it though.

It's not as you say it.

If they accept the CVA, they are not able to take action over anything else or against anyone else.

In theory (if not the reality), they should end up with more money by refusing the CVA, because they can go after both Murray and Whyte personally (who both sanctioned the non-payment of tax that was due &/or continued to trade a bankrupt entity).

HMRC have already hinted that part of their reasoning for rejecting the CVA is to enable them to pursue some individuals, so I think it's pretty likely they will.

It might end up with the pursuit not really being about tax matters in the end tho (and instead fraud, etc) which might mean that HMRC give up the chase in favour of another govt agency. But I think, at this moment, they're believing they might get extra for the taxpayer by going after Murray and Whyte.

I dont know much about business.

The hmrc have rejected the 9p in the pound, but would they get anything if rangers went into liquidation?

I know little about how it precisely works, but from what I've read today it seems that it means instead of there being a £8.5M 'pot of money' to dish out to the creditors there's instead £5.5M pot of money - so it looks like they'll get something, but not as much directly from the club as if they'd agreed to the CVA.

Man utd have signed nick Powell, young promising striker from crewe.

Was only discussing utd striker dilemma Sunday night at work. We needed one with Owen leaving and berba close to leaving. Was always going to be a difficult one as it was never going to be a big name due to Rooney/wellbeck/ chica and a promising youngster was perhaps a good option.

I'm willing to bet all the papers will be starting a load of rumours about Dzagoev. I didn't watch the first game with being off festivalling but he's been excellent this one, even ignoring the goal. No idea whether he'd leave CSKA/Russia etc., but he had a moderately good rep before this tournament, already earned a major one in it.

Thiago Silva moving to PSG it seems. Poor. One of those transfers purely for money. 30 odd million.

about money in the same way that all transfers for money are about money?

It's naff all different when Utd or anyone else sign a player. How has that passed you by?

And whats going on with 'Arry? Rumours hes to be sacked/is quitting.

From tying together a number of stories over a few weeks, it looks like 'Arry - the man who claimed in court to have no interest in money - is trying to screw Spurs for more money, using either a false or true story of an offer from the middle east to jack up his wages.

The problem for 'Arry is that Levy thinks he's shit and doesn't deserve anything at all except - perhaps - the continuation of his existing contract.

And Levy has a point, because there's not really any excuse for Spurs missing out on the Chumps even with Chelski winning it, because the massive points lead that Spurs had in February shouldn't have been lost. If 'Arry was deserving of a bigger contract then that shouldn't have happened.

The problem at Levy's end of things is that he'd already started counted the free money he believed he'd be getting from the FA when 'Arry was appointed England manager, and had started putting out bullshit to ensure Spurs got the biggest possible payout for losing a manager that Spurs didn't want anyway.

It is. Hes at AC Milan. Its not just any club. I don't agree every transfer is about money. It involved obviously but not the primary reason players move. Hence Kaka turning down City.

he's at what is currently a middling club, with an offer from 'the new Man City' - a club that's going to win loads of the next 5 years or so.

Players don't join the club you support for any different reason to that.

I agree to a certain extent. That said going to the French league which next season, with the money the PSG are splashing, is likely to be very uncompetitive, rather than the spanish or english leagues does suggest that the money on offer was what swayed him, rather than the challenge.

except of course the more meaningful challenge that PSV have been given isn't winning the French league, it's winning the Chumps.

And given the weaker state of that league compared to some other leagues, that makes it a greater challenge than he'd get if he joined (say) City now or even 3 years ago.

So while I'm not saying your take on things is wrong it's quite possible for it to be what I've said there, instead or as-well-as.

With these sorts of things for players like this who could engineer themselves a move to just about any club I'd guess it's never solely about the money, even if for some it's 99.9999% of it.

Premier League sold the TV rights from 2013-2016 for 3Bn. Sky get 116 games per year and BT 38.

Paying £6.6m per match!!

BT? Are they on Sky digital? Don't think we have them in Ireland.
