All looks good to be fair

rooney suspended for first 2 games

carrol can hardly get in liverpool side

defoe cant get in spurs side

Wellbeck unproven and in and out of united side and injured.

I remember when we had quality strikers like owen, fowler, cole, sheringham, shearer, ferdinand.

Taking Rooney out of the equation, or 3 other strikers have scored a combined total of 38 goals this season. That is pathetic.

As for captain, by giving it to Gerrard that means he *has* to play Gerrard. I think Fat Frank for the attacking midfield role would be my preference. He's been playing better than Gerrard has of late. Although its possible he's going to play a 4-5-1 with Gerrard playing support to the lone striker, and Fatty and Parker sitting behind in center mid.

I think Joe Hart would have been the best option for captain looking forward to the future. I have no problem with a keeper being Captain.

just thinking about it now, excluding the captain, on form this England team only has 2 or 3 guaranteed names on the team sheet. Cashley, Hart and Rooney (given he's eligible). There's no one else on there who I would say they *have* to be playing. That in itself is a sign of England's weakness.

A cup final win managed by a club legend... what's bette ror more beautiful than that as a football fan Barry? :) To me it's like a little fairy tale, which I know you love

I'll know we're not a big club when we stopped being talked about. But whilst people like you still obsess about us and the pages on this site rack up, we're definitely still a big club. Being a 'big club' is all a fallacy anyway and is just how you are perceived in the eyes of others. An easily destroyable myth. However people speaking about us like you ensures that we remain a so-called "big club". Must grate you musn't it really? That you would love us to be irrelevant, but the amount of time you have wasted thinking about us means we aren't :).

It meant a lot because we hadn't won one for a while like it would have meant a lot to Arsenal fans last year (well certainly the couple of ST holders I know) and because it was Kenny.

The first cup in a while always means a lot. Although we won a lot more that very year, the 2001 League Cup was massive because we were in a similar situation.

I think some liverpool fans need to get a bit of a reality check about the new manager. I have heard people mention Pep or Jurgen Klopp, these managers are not going to go to liverpool. Also people moaning about AVB as chelseas failed seconds, the situation is completely different. Chelsea are an older squad with more big egos who have won a lot of trophies, Liverpool only have 2 big name stars in Gerrard and Suarez, so I think the situation would be very different.

What do you think of Roy's England team selection ?

I agree with him expect for the Liverpool players that he choose, in my opinion none of them deserve to be there.

I mean why choose Glenn Johnson, When Richards had a far better season then him, even Smalling and Walker deserved more to be in that position,

Also the same for Downing and Caroll they had a dreadful season, yet Roy picked them up!!

From what I'm reading, Klopp isn't a non-starter - tho it's not guaranteed he'd have it.

I can't decide if AVB would be a good or a bad thing. I think the stigma of his Chelsea failure might be too much for him to shake off in England.

But I think I'd have him before Martinez. The more I think about Martinez, the harder I find it to separate his record from the sort of record that got Dalglish sacked.

Just give the Liverpool job to either Moyes or O'Neil. I think they would both almost guarantee an improvement on this season. From what I have read about the next manager being in for 4-5 years and looking for a young manager I can see it being Martinez although he is totally unproven in my eyes.

I think a more interesting question would be: What side could he have picked, that wouldn't have been treated with this "worst England side ever" reaction?!

Because short of the Downing and Defoe inclusions, I don't think a lot could have been done differently.

Don't know if people were expecting MessI and Ronaldo in the England squad, but you would certainly think so from this reaction!
