So, what about Jay-Z who writes his own music? Lady Gaga who also writes a lot of her music and clearly puts a lot of time into developing her stage show and putting on what is a very good and entertaining live show. Maybe I'm wrong, but these comments to me seem to be based on music snobbery and the view that pop/urban music is below rock music and its sub-genres.

No one said anything of the kind, in fact the rolling stones were mentioned as one of those types of acts in that are now just a company machine...so no its not music snobbery about pop/urban music at all. (Its just that pop/ famous urban music has seeminly more of it than most other genres... especially "pop" by its nature which you can clearly see by jumping to it's defence so rapidly.)

I completely diagree. Who are you to say that she doesn't enjoy making music and see it as her own way of creating art? Just because it's pop music and she's exploiting her popularity by launching other products, doesn't mean she's simply making music for that reason.

from what I have heard that may be right... my friend works high up at the SoL and has said that they are hopefully getting what could be their biggest gigs from someone who turned down the olympics... I will phone them tomorrow to see if I can get anything more

I think it's very naive to hold on to some romantic notion of selling out and artistic credibility still having the same meaning as it did back in the in the time before the early 90's. Kim Gordon modeled for Gap, does that instantly discredit the entire Sonic Youth back catalogue and remove them from being one of the most inventive and influential band to emerge from the US in the last 30 years? Of course not.

Personally I find most of these artists vomit-inducing but times have changed so much that you can't instantly judge someone for taking part in selling a product. There are far more obvious ways and reasons to pour scorn on these fuckers.

Also quoting Bill Hicks is a bit cliched tongue.png

Well these dates that were posted on another forum as RS dates, which I and many others interrupted as Rolling Stones were in fact.... Rod Stewart!! How stupid am I!

So.... Rod Stewart for a Sub slot on one of the days??

Regarding Rod Stewart. Apart from him not having any good songs despite 45 years of being in the music industry, is he not notoriously one of the worst Glasto headliners of all time?

he was dreadful.

Some of the things that went on around his booking were pretty dreadful too - like his manager or another person closely connected to him pretending on these forums to be an army of fans, and throwing a wobbly cos efests had listed Roger Waters above Rod in the rumours here.
