finding money on the floor

I found a phone last year, texted her friends/mum to find it who it belonged to and their address. Sent it back to her (she lived at the other end of the country) and got a phone call saying thank you.

Then, by a crazy coincidence, went to my friend's house in London for NYE, and it turned out my friend had ended up living with the girl who the phone belonged to - I had probably met her at some point during the night, but we didn't realised til afterwards :)

Back in the early 80s when I used to go to the Stonehenge Festival, found money used to fund my entire 2 week stay. I used to wander the site before going to bed in the morning and on average I found about £5-£10 a day lying around by the stages and stalls which kept me going for another 24 hrs. The most I've found at Glastonbury was £40 on the Wednesday which I split 50/50 with the next person I met at the bar, but generally it's just the odd coin here and there. Mind you I've lost money myself over the years so I could be finding my own discarded notes :D

I found 4 cans of stella sat, ring pulls facing up in the mud in '09 by JP, quick rinse under the tap and 4 cold cans on a hot afternoon.

In 2010 I accidentally threw all my doobage in the bin in the green fields...realised a few hours later and returned, to find it still sat there.

Me and the ex missus were lying on the grass at new world stage in 2000, as I was lying with my head on the grass it came into focus that there was about a oz of solid hash right in front of my nose. Was quite skint and running out of smoking material by this stage so enjoyed that. St Etienne started playing only love can break your heart, and it was great.

Found someones phone at IOW - rang the last number and got it back to the young lady.

One year at V i parked the motor and as we loaded up with bags, tent, booze i had a brief chat with the girls parked next to me. Two days later i was having a bimble when suddenly the girls who had parked next to us came up to me and handed me my car keys. Apparently i had left them in the car door. I didn't even realise i had lost them so that was a result.

I lost my wallet at a Deadmau5 gig 2 years ago in birmingham and someone had handed it in although it was missing the money and the receipts inside of it :( but cards and stuff still there thankfully. I then got the 5am train with my brother from birmingham to stafford (20 min journey) only to look out the window to discover i could see the sea!! ended up in bloody colwyn bay :s then turned out the sim card was missing from my phone. Finally got back to Stafford got a new sim card and got a call from my brother saying that for some reason he had a bunch of my receipts, my money and my sim card!! I Still carnt get my head around why i would give him all those things but you gotta love Jack Daniels.

Although not directly connected to Glasto there is a point with regards this post.

Late 80's - I was traveling on a over night train from Bangkok to Surat Thani on my way to Koh Samui { Samui airport did not open until the middle of 1989 }

I had made the journey several times before so was not really paying attention when I was walking along the carriage to go to the toilet - as I approached the toilet I passed a white guy but did not look at his face but I presumed he had just come out of the toilet .

Opened the door - closed the door and then I spotted a Waist Bum Bag - looked in it and found a American passport - a Round the World flight ticket - $ 2,000 in traveller cheques and some lose notes.

Anyone who knows Thailand will be aware that there is a big market in western passports and dodgy Bureau de Change places that would buy traveller cheques { sure not at face value but they are still of value }

Lucky enough the passport was only one year old so the photograph was well up to date - I left the toilet with the bag and as I knew in which direction the guy had been walking I went hunting for him - I found him two carriages along and he was with five Americans and they were very excited at travelling though Thailand to Singapore.

I had the bag behind me and said to the guy ' are you missing anything ? ' - he looked at me as if I was Nuts and said ' No ' - ' Are you really sure - double check ' - ' No I have not lost anything ' - just then one of his mates said ' Mark where is your bum bag ' - Mark looked down and his face went white and it did look as if he was about to faint ' - I produced the bag and his face light away up - he just could not believe he had been so stupid as its the type that you strap to your waist under your clothes and your not supposed to take it off.

I asked him to check it which he did and there was nothing missing - he did offer me a reward but I am not into money.I did warn him to be more careful as the odds are he would never have seen it again if it was someone else.

Sure I could have got off the train sold all his stuff long before the train was due to pull in to Singapore so he would never have been aware any thing was missing so no risk to me at all but that would not be me as I was just happy that I was able to find him and make his day.

So if you use a Waist Bum Bag { or whatever its called these days } don't take it off to go to the toilet.

In 2004 (I think) I found a wallet on the floor during the WC match at the pyramid, as it was early on in the feat it had about £250 in it.

There was a driving license in there so i somehow managed to get a few hundred people around me singing the name on the licence in the style of a football chat, a few minutes later the owner of the wallet turned up wondering why hundreds of people where singing his name. I presented him with his wallet, to much rejoicing, and he went on his way a very happy man.

On the Monday morning, skint, hungry, tiered & hangover I found about 95 quid in pound coins no cars left nearby and nothing else there that would give any clue as to who lost it, so I kept it.

Sorry to be a bore but 'legally' you have to enquire into who owns the money otherwise it could be classed as stealing........ you are fine as long as you whisper in a very very quiet voice 'anyone lost some money' (so so quiet that even you can't hear it yourself) then you are fine to claim it :ph34r::ph34r:

I went on holiday with the kids a few years ago, and going from the car to the room with the bags I lost my wallet. I retraced my steps, and worked out I had probably stupidly put it beside me on a bench whilst the kids were playing and not picked it up.

This was the first day, I had £400 in there and all of my cards. I was absolutely gutted as I had no money, and no way of getting any more...as you can imagine, the chances of a ruined holiday were extremely high.

I then went to the reception and asked if anyone had handed a wallet in. I was a bit despondent as I wasn't expecting a positive response. However, I was extremely surprised to find someone had handed it in, and more surprised that it still had all of the money in. I asked who had handed it in, as I wanted to give them a reward if they were stopping at the same place. I was told that they had asked to remain anonymous.

Never felt such relief, just wish I could have personally thanked the finders!

In 09 I was dancing to Altern-8 in the dance tent on the Thurs night when I saw a phone flashing on the floor. Literally as I picked it up the battery died. Didn't seem worth handing in as I didn't think they'd bother charging it, so I took it home, borrowed a charger, called the person then posted it back to him. Was a bit of a hassle for someone who was stupid enough to let their phone run out of juice by Thursday - it didn't feel like they were meeting me halfway on that one!

In 95 I fell asleep while skinning up with my wallet in front of me by my tent. Someone nicked my cash (£25 odd) and my solids (prob an eighth or a quarter) but they did leave the wallet with cards and my return bus ticket in.

Moral of the story: karma is b*llshit!

Lost my phone the one and only time I went to V. Had a call from the guy who found it, who sent it recorded delivery next day from his home up north and refused to take any thing for the cost. Said it was his pay back for being 'very very bad'.

Also found £60 last year in notes and I would also always had in a purse etc but as you say cash is impossible to return so..........speaking of handing stuff in, a couple of years ago I was at Beautiful days when i saw a purse on the floor. I thought 'great now I can prove to myself what I've always said about handing stuff in' I bent down to pick it up only to see it disappear Top Cat stylie on bit of string and then have to endure derision of the large group watching...

I followed a group of folks, saw one drop a bulging wallet and promptly gave it back to him. He thanked me heartily and said it had 500 quid and a couple of grams in it.

I've lost various things from year to year, but have often been with other folks who've shared with me, so things have a way of working out :)

Several times I have found loose money, After picking it up and looking at it (how much, types of notes) I look around for someone, anyone who appears to have a panicky "i've lost my money" look on their face. I have then apporached them and said "have you lost something?" If they say money, I tell them I found some.

I've had more than one person look at the money, say "not mine" and even declined an offer to split it with them even though they were in an obvious bind.

A few, were very greatful.

Some have even insisted in buying me a beer!

If it is in a wallet, If it has ID in it (anything with a name) If I can't find the owner by yelling out the name! I take it straight to lost property/police/info point.

Gotta agree with the majority here, if it's a wallet or anything with ID in then you'd be a c**t not to return it. If it's cash, I'd still hang around for a few minutes and see if anyone looks like they've obviously lost something but if nobody shows I'd have no guilt keeping it - although I'd be a lot more liberal in spending it on drinks and things for people B)

Found a Nokia touch screen phone near some toilets, it had run out of battery so had to wait until I got home, bought & waited for a charger to come from eBay until I could post it back to the girl. Had £20 in the battery compartment too.
