I assume you mean Bullet For My Valentine? I didn't take you as a fan haha, I'd love to see Radiohead and i'm not even that big of a fan but their shows look brilliant. Same goes for Bon Iver!

Like all sorts of music mate. From metal to folk to pop to indie to dance to whatever, Saw bullet at the nia last year and was different class.

One of my regrets this year is I had to change plans from going to roskilde as bon iver is headlining.

Whether it does or doesn't isn't really important. I'm highly amused by the comments tho.

Loads of people here have slagged off this year's R/L line-up, and said it'll be difficult to sell. Then FR allow something to happen which is likely to help tickets sell (by giving Kasabian some exposure to an audience they wouldn't normally have, who might then decide to buy Reading tickets to see them again), and that becomes the wrong thing to do as well.

Are FR meant to be trying to sell the tickets, or not? Make up your bleedin' minds.

It isn't a festival and even if it was then FR would argue they they have exclusive headliners, as in their headliners aren't headlining anywhere else in England. Which they aren't.

No it wasn't. Even back then they had to charge. Look at what happened with IOW 1970.

Your/our/general definition of a festival and his definition may be different though, because his will be based on the competition it poses. You can't buy tickets for it so a general R&L punter isn't going to have the option of going to R&L or Hackney weekend if they wanted to see Kasabian, as they would if Kasabian were headlining R&L and V. Therefore in his mind in a business sense it isn't any real competition and therefore isn't worth considering a rival festival.

Ah, succinctly put. I wasn't seeing it through the business point of view but now what you [and others, in retrospect] have said makes complete sense.

There is a possibility that someone who is contemplating getting a ticket for R&L wins one for Hackeney weekend and decides that because they've now seen Kasabian, The Maccabees, Enter Shikari, etc. that they won't bother with R&L, but the likelihood or number of tickets that would be affected would be so minor that it wouldn't be worth the money or effort trying to stop R&L bands playing.

On flip side as Neil said there may be cases of people who see these bands at Hackney weekend, realise that the setting and set lengths would be better at a festival and decide to buy a ticket on the back of it.

Again I'm not sure it would be a major amount but the two probably cancel each other out, which is why FR consider it not worth worrying about competition-wise.

Kasabian in 2004 and Goldie Lookin Chain in 2005. It may have happened more frequently before then but I think those are the last two.
