Just to say I love this thread too.

I can come to this forum sometimes sometimes and read threads about various artists & bands from Beyonce to Pulp, and begin to think that the internet sucks the joy out of everything - even Glastonbury.

Then a thread like this comes along and i remember that there is nothing that can suck the joy from Glastonbury, and the 5 days i am there are the happiest of the year, and the only sadness is that i have to spend 360 days every year not there.

Thankyou Michael and Emily.

I'd been to 4 different festivals, going to each a couple of years running, and on the Sunday's of each of those I'd been looking forward to going home. Glastonbury was the first festival where on the Monday morning I was really upset to be leaving.

I echo the other comments here; that some of us aren't from the best backgrounds, some of us hate our jobs and aren't good at socialising, some of us don't like the people we're around at home - but for 5 days, you allow us to forget all of that by welcoming us into your home and giving us the best holidays of our lives.

I don't think you can possibly understand how much it means to us.

Thankyou for all your hard work, I am truly grateful for the wonderful show you put on each year.

I cannot imagine my life without Glastonbury anymore.

Rather brilliant docu-clip here. Fact is: The Eavo, over the years, has fought tooth and nail to keep the festival going. His inspiration was when he and (the late) Jean attended the Bath & West Folk festival, or something and thought: how brilliant would a festival be, here at Glastonbury..?

My first festival was Strawberry Fayre in Cambridge when I was fourteen. I felt a similar..awakening. Pretty sure my life would've been infinitely more banal without The Eavo and his magic summer garden party.

Also, it deserves a mention: Nobody else in the world appears to have the same fascination and obsession with festivals, as do the British. We are surely the World Leaders (at something, at least :D ). Remnants of our Pagan/Celtic/Free-spirit heritage, I'm sure.

Of course, The Eavo deserves a knighthood (Karen bloody Millen's got one) for services to Stoners, over the years. :D

The Eavo in action (gotta love the man) :

It is the main holiday of the year for us. I love the fact you can go be what you want, wear what you want and speak to random people who you have never met/won't see again but everyone is so friendly! I love the brothers bar atmosphere Wednesday night all sat round chilling and just talking to anyone not long now!!!!!

aye, thanks pal! :D

i don't get all the moaning about the pyramid headliners. there's HUNNERS to do at glastonbury, why does it matter if 3 acts on ONE stage out of loads aren't to your tastes?

glastonbury is amazing.. i can't even describe the happiness it makes me feel not just when i'm there, but every other day of the year when i look forward to it :D

i can't wait :D

Fantastic thread GuyPJFreak.

A massive thanks to Emily and Michael and all their staff for pulling it off each year.

How could you convey what is one of the best parties in the world to some one that hasn't been?

dancing, listening, eating, big stage, smiling, bantering, meeting, missing, resting, fireworks, new bands, live music, warm tents, Pyramid stage, dry tents, sleeping bags, open fires, laughing, chat to strangers, strange chat, weird and wonderful, old bands, drinking, flamboyant, costumes, sounds carried by the wind, great bands, meetings lost, meetings made, talking, new friends, old friends, watching, Beer tents, bad bands, small stage, banging toilet doors, smells - mostly good, astounding, awe inspiring, stone circle, sunrise, sun set, cheering, grinning.

Glastonbury - 5 Days of Blissful Limbo

Yep, I know some people will find it easy to add negative descriptions to the above, but why bother ?

I hope they read this, the amount of slating they got for various reasons (headliners and especially the ticket resales) was a disgrace. That said, I probably wouldn't go on forums just because of the amount of negativity in so many of the posts (although here tends to be more 'what are your favourite photos/ memories/ videos etc.?' than 'Mrs Jay-Z can get back in the kitchen awlriight,' for example)

I have been to em all since 98, and although some have been better than others, there is still no place on Earth I would rather be at the end of June and that is testament to what ME and all his staff create every year in a small part of Somerset :)

As for moaning about the headliners (and I have had a grumble about the last couple of years if im honest), they are only a small part of the festival and there will be other things to do and see that have the potential to last a lot longer in the mind than a Chris Martin, a Bono or even a fit bird shaking her ass ;)

I did that the other day, I had a sudden rush of love and sent an enormously cringey thank you letter with a wonkey blue watercolour cow painted on the front. I think I spelled Michael wrong (e and a wrong way round)and it basically just turned into a massive list of memories. It was supposed to be 'I love your festival and I hope that I get tickets in the resale but if I don't then at least I've got the memories (maaan)' but probably came across as me trying to scab a ticket through flattery or something. I can't remember what else I wrote. I'm really embarrassed now.:lol:

Thanks indeed to Michael and Emily, who work tirelessly to set up the greatest and largest (greenfields) festival around.

I love that moment at Glastonbury, when you look round, and suddenly realise that "this feels like home." I've not experienced that at any other festival or event, and it is all thanks to Michael and Emily's hard work and inviting us in to their home for 5 magical days.
