Van Halen to tour in 2011:

Melodic Rock have given an update on Van Halen’s plans for next year.

According to the report Van Halen WILL tour in 2011, with North American dates a certainty and European and Australian dates extremely likely. The Herald Sun in Australia reports that the band "...are very close to confirming an Oz visit next year..."

The line-up, despite some rumours that Michael Anthony would return, will remain the same as it was in 2007.

The report says that the band HAVE recorded new material and that a new album will be on the way next year. However, they have apparently not finished the record and so it will not be completed before the tour. The producer will apparently be Ross Hogarth, who has worked with the likes of John Mellencamp, Dio, Motley Crue and the Black Crowes.

In the article which I translate as exclusive to the festivals, along with - I wish someone else other than eFestivals would do news on it so I get a better understanding of the exclusivity

I'm from Germany. You've translated it quite right, but the exclusivity to the festival is just for Germany, not for whole Europe.

If it helps you to kill some rumors for Download: Linkin Park, Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden won't attend Rock am Ring, they have been ruled out by the organisers for 2011. Don't know if this has some impact on Download.

My guess is Soundgarden, Foo Fighters & Van Halen.

Not ozzy, purely because ozzfest was put on by killimanjaro, so that says to me that he's more likely for sonisphere

I really don't think Van Halen will even be considered as headliners.

LN have spoken before about how they're not as popular on these shores as they are in the States, and it's not as if they've done anything recently to become more popular. It's been said that they're too expensive to book in a supporting role, and not a big enough draw to book as a headliner.

Plus, when you look at the bands who have played and not headlined - ZZTop, Judas Priest, Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Motorhead, Megadeth etc. Are Van Halen really big enough to be headliners?

I reckon they might headline High Voltage if there's another one of them next year.

Tis probably really terrible but tbh I have no idea bout headliners this year.. seems Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Van Halen, Bon Jovi and many more could take the headline slots.. but I'm bored so:

Linkin Park (still big enough? New album was complete crap)

Foo Fighters (Doing own shows, could play others)

Red Hot Chili Peppers (V Festival?)

Tool (Sonisphere would want them most likely)

Muse (are they 'Download' enough?)

QOTSA (Big Enough?)

Rob Zombie (Second Stage)

Korn (Sonisphere Under 'Tallica)

My Chemical Romance (Doubt Download would be risking them again, Prob Reading/Leeds)

i dont think Korn would be able to headline a stage at the moment. I think that avenged sevenfold are more in the right place right now to headline the second stage

      13th Primavera (Thursday was definitely making me feel like this was the cursed year).  Blood Orange was such a party by the end of their set but we all knew that rain storm was approaching.  So gutted Massive Attack didn't play after the false hope of a new rescheduling, especially knowing that Elizabeth Fraser & Horace Andy were backstage with them!  Managed a bit of Melt Banana but was just so over the weather by that point.   Friday was awesome, Rilo Kiley were so much fun.  Never big the biggest Cure fan but made the effort for them & Robert Smith sounds like he did back in the 80s.  PinkPantheress & Viagra Boys were also great.   The highlight for me was Sudan Archives on the Saturday, she was stunning & with the Olivia Rodrigo surprise set too it made up for the Thursday sh*t show.  Dijon & Knocked Loose also superb.   Shoutout to Cardiacs on the Tuesday too, they were so LOUD, played a storming set.

      Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
