The Mirror's just reported that Torres has passed his medical.

blimey - about an hour ago I read that Torres was still in Liverpool, waiting for Liverpool to actually accept a bid for him.

But it's probably bull. It was the Mirror that said he'd left Melwood in a helicopter. That no one else that was there saw.

If Chelsea continue to average what they've done they'll finish miles clear of Liverpool no matter what improvement Liverpool show. You do realise that they're 9 points behind them and Chelsea have a game in hand right?

I did say "unlikely".

If Liverpool were to win all of their remaining games, then it happens. If Chelsea continue their more recent form (back to the start of their losing streak) average rather than the whole-season average then it looks possible.

I don't expect it to happen, but it could.

(And I wrote all that when it looked like Anelka would be part of a Torres deal, leaving them shorter of alternatives if Torres got crocked. Which also would have made Liverpool overtaking them a more likely possibility).

there's been reports all day that Man Utd are about to bid for him, tho don't know if there's really anything to that.

Looks like Chelsea have got Luiz, that their Torres deal has been accepted ... and that 'Arry is buying a £30M striker (Rossi) as his last roll of the dice for a top 4 place.

Whether it works out good for Liverpool overall depends on how well Carroll plays.

I cant remember if the top six teams in the selling list, then splashed the money on am overinflated transfer fee. I think it will go down as one of the biggest flops ever. I can see him back in newcastle in a couple of years for a fraction of the price.

I suspect you'll be right.

But then again, Dalglish has got a (mostly) good record in buying young strikers at seemingly high prices, and them turning out good. So you never know.

Torres has only now, apparently, been given permission to talk to Chelsea, after a deal has been agreed.

I know you said unlikely, but even if they did win all of their remaining games chelsea would still need to lose2 more games as well.

If Chelsea continue the average form they've had this season so far, they finish with 68 points.

If Liverpool win all of their remaining 14 games, that's 42 points, which when their existing 32 are added to that, makes 74 points.

Now, I don't have a maths degree, but that says to me that Liverpool could lose 2 games and still beat* Chelsea in the league.

(*tho they'd have to sore shit loads of goals to beat Chelsea's goal difference if they had equal points).
