so do you really think that if you had any star players to sell (:P) that some of the fans of your own club would act any differently?

There's morons at every club. As so recently proven in Manchester Salford.

the one that i've seen on facebook is.

only 1.8m down yesterday. reduced wage bill. and suarez/carolll is a better combination than babel/torres.

liverpool can just do no wrong in some peoples eyes

so ssn reporting inaccurately then last night. that makes even less sense then, why it's an hours difference in the same bloody country?

it might be because of this...

International transfers had to be lodged with FIFA by 11pm GMT.

I'm guessing that that the SFA concluded that Scottish clubs outside the SPL wouldn't have any international transfers, so could use the time right up to midnight.

and it might prove to be the case. No one knows yet, do they?

Carroll is a huge risk at that price, but it might turn out to be the bargain of the decade. Dalglish has a pretty good record at buying young strikers for silly money that turn out to be bargains. Whether this will be another one we've yet to see.

aah right. but then why not allow spurs the extra hour to negotiate with blackpool/adam if that's not an international?

I'd guess because the Prem/FA wanted to have a single time to give to all clubs, rather than be saying "if it's an international transfer it must be done by 11 but you get an extra hour if it's not".

yeah i agree. but it's also the case that carroll could turn out to be a dud and/or a perma-crock and that suarez might not adjust. anything can happen.

just the way some fans go on, their club can do no wrong and they defend/praise everything they do.

I think Carroll is ace, 35 million quid is a huge, huge gamble though, if Hodgson had signed him fro that, they'd all be going mental.

Im actually a bit gutted that Carroll has signed for them, on the plus side though I suspect he will be very, very easy to hate

yep - if I had to make a bet right now, I'd bet that they won't perform to the required level over the next season and a half.

But the guesses of you and me count for nowt. The only thing that counts is what they do manage to do on the field, and that we've yet to see.

It'll be interesting to see who Liverpool field tomorrow - I know Carroll won't play, but hopefully Suarez will, and then we'll get to get an impression of how he might pan out.

just the way some fans go on, their club can do no wrong and they defend/praise everything they do.

Within the reality of Torres wanting out, and there only being a very short time to get something else organised, I don't think they've done too shabbily - *IF* Carroll turns out good.

Liverpool had to go and get someone, and their options for someone at the level they needed were very limited - they'd have had difficulty recruiting a proven top-level player because of being outside the Chumps League.

Of the 'lesser' options that they could have signed Carroll is a very good one, because of his potential. And Suarez, given how he's been banging them in in Holland, could be a genius signing too (and one I doubt they'd have been able to get in the coming summer, as other big clubs would have been likely to be after him).

I still can't believe the price they paid for Carroll tho, it's silly money. But less silly than not getting someone else else in.

aye carrolls a good player, but remove the price tag.

is he as good as berbatov/rooney, drogba/torres, van persie/bentdner(teehee), tevez/dzeko? not for me.

Could Liverpool have signed any of those players, or comparable players? Nope.

Within the options open to them, Carroll is quite possibly the best buy they could make. If he lives up to the potential some say he has then he's a bargain.

I just read that Liverpool will save £18m (edit: wages) over 5 years with Carroll instead of Torres. Shrewder bit of business that I'd initially appreciated. He's a gamble but looking at that maybe it's not the financially stupid move it looks on the surface. It all puts Darren Bent's transfer in perspective regardless.

surely there were cheaper players who have proven themselves at international level as well? diego forlan instantly comes to mind (despite his failed earlier stint in england). there'll be others.

He's old, and on silly wages. While they might have been able to buy him, he'd have been a poor use of money.

Liverpool's new owners are known for identifying young talent, and being successful via that.

the fact that they can't sign those players or comparable just proves my point. why are some liverpool troops so happy that they can't compete with who should be their peers?

I'd say they're happy for a completely opposite reason - that they realise they're now on a lower level, but that investment in young players of the likes of Carroll is their path back to better days.

It's no good anyone dreaming that they're still the club they were in the past, that gets them nowhere.

Yeah, not quite as bad as losing your star player though, who then claims to have joined a bigger team and also spunk 35 million on a player who then states that he didn't want to join you!!

Believe me, Everton fans had a hugely enjoyable transfer window! We were the ones watching the fellas on the stag do making complete tits of themselves

    • Not my experience. I've always got the size I paid for.
    • Kind of crackers how fast this summer seems to be sailing by. But aye, must be some news soon!
    • I am very possibly wrong about this but I do think that the pitch you get allocated appears to be related to your time of arrival, (i.e. you get the next one available) rather than the price you paid for a small, medium or large pitch.  They all appear to be the same size to me.
