Arcade Fire as headliners?

Looks like there will be a difference between headliners this year for TITP and Poxegen. Arcade Fire are Headlining Oxegen but the headliners for TITP are already listed as Muse Fri, Eminem Sat and Kasabian Sun.......

AF may still play TITP but wont headline as they will in Ireland.............

Yep, I know all of that.

But if they play at T they can't be a UK exclusive for R/L - which is precisely why I wrote "the 'exclusive' part might just be an "English exclusive" rather than "UK exclusive""

If I'd have been thinking of things in the way Wooderson had presumed, I wouldn't have said "might", I would have said "definitely" - after all, they're already confirmed for Oxegen.

You've made the mistake of thinking of that Ireland was anywhere in my head when I wrote that - it wasn't.

I wrote that on the basis that Arcade Fire might well also be playing T in the Park (as they've been confirmed for Oxegen).

Have you been taking chippiness classes off other inhabitants of these islands? :P:P

Controversy

Security arrangements at Oxegen were criticised as being poor by some sections of the media. The camp-site was not free from trouble in 2006 troublesome, with some reports of tent-burning and an alleged stabbing on the Sunday night/Monday morning of the festival. In the Green Room there was seen to be a considerable leak allowing rain into the enclosed tent.

There were 225 arrests for drugs (with 13 charged for possession with intent to supply), an alleged rape, [2] and the Evening Herald reported that around 250 people were treated for alcohol and drug abuse. Fears were raised of a bad batch of the drug ecstasy when 40 people were sent to Naas General Hospital, but no evidence of such a batch was found.

At present, the previously lively official forum remains shut down, presumably as a result of postings on the message board which would generate negative publicity for the event. As internet users reported on the event at boards.ie, Ireland's largest web-based discussion forum, MCD pressed for legal action to prevent such postings from surfacing.

In response to negative postings about the festival on boards.ie, MCD sent a letter via their solicitors to the administrators of the site threatening legal action. As a result, the administrators were forced to ban all discussion of MCD and related events. As of Friday August 11, 2006, MCD had entered into legal proceedings against boards.ie for comments regarding Oxegen on their discussion forums. Mention of any MCD event - including any of its stage concerts throughout the country - continues to be banned on boards.ie. Discussion of its venues, The Ambassador and The Olympia, is also prohibited.

The Irish Independent were also threatened with legal action on their coverage of the Oxegen festival. Justin Green of MCD told the paper: "We must warn you that in the event that an article critical of the event is published, we will take whatever action is necessary to prevent damage to the Oxegen event or MCD Productions."

Because of MCD's legal threats, many bloggers and internet discussion board users believe the incidents at Oxegen were under-reported in the Irish media. Liberal web magazine Indymedia referred to MCD as "burying" the discussion.

i know i piss and moan about v, and tbf reading on a sunday isnt the nicest of places (day tickets for me only, to avoid it)

but that takes the biscuit. i dont give a f**k who they are, that kind of shit happens to me and the perpetrators are never walking again!!

but who the hell wants to feel like that at a festival.

as far as im concerned their supposed to be places to chill, forget the differences of the world and act as we should be allowed to without society's impositions.

but thats just f**king base!!

not sure what to make of this

after lurking the arcade fire official forum "us kids know" i came across a post that refers to a curious statement made in the irish times

the post refers to the blog of well-respected irish times jim carroll, where he reports on arcade fire being added to oxegen

when asked about the prospects of arcade fire being in europe as early as may for primavera sound, jim carroll gave this reply

"don’t think so, much as I’d like that - have heard this morning that they’re more likely to begin their European tour at Glastonbury."

not sure how much of a source jim carroll is, but he was one of the first to report the headliners for oxegen & t, so his info is considered pretty reliable
