Arcade Fire as headliners?

Think about it:

  • The reports of a new album in May means that they will be in the touring frame of mind at that time

  • They are a band made for Glastonbury

  • The headlining line up so far is very safe. You could argue Muse are that band but they're not as exciting as they used to be and neither are U2.

  • By that time it will have been three years since the band last played.

  • If they play UK festivals, I can't see them doing anything else unless they decide to headline Latitude again, but I find that highly unlikely.

What do you guys think? I know that the Rolling Stones are strongly rumoured but I'm just throwing it out there.

I bloody said Arcade Fire would headline ages ago!

However, I've now changed my mind - seeing as U2 have already been confirmed and Muse are basically confirmed I don't see it happening. If they don't play the fest this year then I really do see it happening next year though.

I reckon they might headline next year for the ol' "they're about to make it really big" gimmick slot like Kings of Leon did. Sure, they may not seem an obvious choice for headliner, but they do seem like one of those bands who just need one big popular with the mainstream album to become a big name.

yeah i read that, i'm sure they will do festivals at some point though.......

i absolutely love arcade fire, i saw them in brixton about 2 years ago i think and it was one of the best performances i have ever seen. don't think they are quite popular enough at the moment, especially in the 40th anniversary year. like people have mentioned they could play below a headliner or if they do have issues with the whole festival thing perhaps headlining another stage would be the best option (i'd DEFINITELY see them ahead of f**king U2 and f**king muse.....sorry for swearing)

i hope the new album is a belter. not sure their sound and vibe at the moment lends itself to HUGE mainstream success but i hope they don't change too radically in order to make a break through album.

I was at the gig too. It was fan-bloody-tastic wasnt it. They would put on a MILES better show than U2 or Muse. At least U2 havent played before so I can accept them as headliner but Muse? The so-called "best live band in the world" would be blown away by Arcade Fire.

It is depressing that just because they havent headlined before people dont think they should do it. I say they absolutely should. How anyone could prefer has beens like rolling stones and U2 or regular festival bores such as muse/coldplay to a band at the absolute top of their game is beyond me.

Oh and their new album will be amazing. There is no way they will sell out like kings of leon did I am convicned of it.

Aren't they from Canada? Isn't that a bit too close to Alaska, for your liking? :P

I like them. They aren't high enough profile to be headliners though of the main stage however. Eavis is talking about superstars. And what with their dislike of festivals in general and the Glasto weather specifically as already mentioned, I don't see it happening this year.

Merit's all very subjective though, isn't it? I'm sure that a lot of people would prefer to see one of the greatest bands in rock n' roll play to be honest. But I forget - it's all about you isn't it baby? :P

So better than Bob Dylan's "Royal Albert Hall" concert, then? Or maybe Jimi Hendrix at Monterrey? Or the Beatles at Shea Stadium? Queen Live Magic at Wembley? The Band's Last Waltz?
