I think you'd probably need to listen to Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfingness Final Finale and Songs in the Key of Life really. A lot of the famous singles don't do him credit.

Mind you, anyone who doesn't get a groove going on to Superstisious is with soul. Official, that is.

Personally, I could listen to "Please Don't Go" off FFF over and over and over quite happily. I love a crescendo me.

Not the same sort of set or show but I'd love to see Bill Wyman's Rythmn Kings. A class bunch of musicians, including Georgie Fame, who've nothing left to prove but who still really enjoy playing. And Beverley Skeete is an awesome singer.

They've been asked to paly sssssssssssooooooooooo many times but have ALWAYS refused due to the lack of ££££ offereed by Michael. They have got the spirit/ethos of the festival at heart, so i wouldn't be upset if they didn't play. However, as it's the big 40th ann, they'd be an excellent addition to the bill.

We got a further comment out of the Stones PR people yesterday, saying that they wouldn't be playing festivals either.

And as the Stones don't do one-off performances, and, I'm told by various stones complete-nutters, they certainly wouldn't do a televised appearance without first doing a handful of warm-up shows (they're terrified of coming across crap, it's said), it does seem extremely unlikely that they're playing.

I'm now pretty sure that they've abandoned all plans to tour/play live for the moment, because of Ronnie going on the piss.

Also, if the Stones can keep it together with Keef on smack, as he was for the entire 1970s, Im sure they could do a tour with Ronnie drunk. Lets face it, Keith gave up smack in the early 80s and has been a vodka addict since then.

I believe that the issue with Ronnie is to do with getting insurance for the tour (there's been a few newspaper reports about it) .... while things might have been (and probably were) different in the past, today the Stones are a huge corporate machine, and a machine that only gets off its arse to do anything if the result is a massive financial windfall with no risks.

If they can't get insurance then the band carry the risk, and seeing as they'd only tour to make huge amounts of money and not to lose huge amounts of money, I'd guess that they're simply not prepared to take the risk of touring with Ronnie in case things do go tits-up, and I'd guess that they aren't keen to replace him as that would tarnish further an already getting-tarnished brand which would similarly risk impacting on what they can earn.
