Is it wrong that I feel quite smug that every other festival is probably gonna have a shit lineup compared to Glasto? (assuming the other bands/artists playing are of a similar caliber)

You can be that smug each and every year. Glasto always has a far better line-up, unless you've a huge liking for indie landfill.

This is fabulous news! and i only think it will get better.

a few thoughts..

Neil promises us as an announcement by end of week. a secret he's promised to keep quiet about. i'm guessing that it is related to his 'secret' he still keeps as to whom the elusive 4th headliner was supposed to be in '09, the act before Springsteen. I still reckon it was supposed to be Coldplay and I think that neil will reveal that on friday and also tell us that Coldplay are playing in '10, perhaps even as a special 4th headliner playing below either U2 on friday or Radiohead/Stones/Led Zep on saturday.

re: saturday act being bigger than friday's. U2 playing friday is purely becaues of the travel required to make it back for a sunday US gig, not specifically because they have someone bigger for Sat. taking all of saturday to travel back to US would be their plan.

but, I still do reckon we're having someone massive on Sat night. and then Muse or Elbow on Sunday.

Finally, somone gave a shoutout to Springsteen on this post, which i agree with. The fact he played surely gave a push to u2 who agreed "all right, if he did, we have to as well". Bono and the band adore the Boss. he was in the crowd for their New Jersey show this summer and they played "She's the One" into "Desire" [as all the Daft Punk readers on efests go "wot??? she's the one?!?!?!"]

Going to be a fab Glasto, which it needs to be to top 09...

I'm not a big fan and i'm irish :P but the one time i did see them they were really good and i think it's good to get such a big band if not the biggest (my opinion )to play glasto on the friday night. And if you don't want to see them i'm pretty sure you will find someone else who you like to watch. That's only my opinion though.

To be fair Neil, when was the last time you saw U2 live?? I reckon you'll enjoy it more than you did at the Boss this year....if you don't plan on hanging around though, skip the start of the set and arrive about an hour in...should be wall to wall classics by then. I'm not a big fan (haven't bought a U2 album in years), saw them this year for the first time in ages and they were great (and I only went cos somebody else bought me the ticket)...

I've never seen U2 live.... very deliberately, cos they haven't recorded a good tune for 20+ years IMO.

But even so, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it far more than I did the smidgen of Bruce that made me run away very fast - I don't think anything could be as middle of the road and bland as Bruce was.

I'll probably go check them out, providing there's not something I want to see elsewhere.

As every announcement is made, there will be some that do and some that don't like particular acts. Me personally will be chewing at the Pyramid to see this. If they sing Still havnt found and when I say if, this has got to be a cert since this is one of those classics they know will have the crowd singing. I want to be off to the side.

Its one thing being at the front and hearing an out of tune voice sreaming down your ear but off to the side you get the whole crowd effect. This is what gives you that goosebumps moment.

    • They don't strike me as a band that'd even enter the conversation for Trees

    • Another note, if I didn't mention the food in the arena for main stage is right at the back. Bands wise they do very well for but as a festival so far they pros are outweighed quite heavily currently for me.
    • On another note for RIP as an event, there is some good things but there are so many things people going to UK festivals would hate and how far behind they are.  Consistent network and water, beer and pretzel like food is brought around to buy in the crowds. Topping up on the wristband is good. The camping and food arrangement is not good, you really need cooking kit. Water points inside the arena are bonkers, water points in camping are a faff unless you are close enough in general camp. Merch stands are crazy. You MASSIVELY need to think about your lidl shop for camping and try and do it so you've one stop. It's definitely worth it getting to a camping shop here, picking up a rolley between your mates and stacking it for the walk back....lidl is cheap though, not hard getting in but Thursday queues getting in and into the camping is mad. You have to register first for a wristband as well leaving any bigger bags behind so pull to a side if only two and do it separately. I was joining a WhatsApp group for solo camp so went with the flow but I've learnt. Had it been me or just two my tent would have been down much quicker.  Big final note, I got a fresh and black 3 man from decathlon before coming and put in bigger suitcase with my airbed and sleeping bag...do this. Take a smaller option for your clothes. If you go to Munich first, book your train to Nuremberg as far in advance as you can....very important!....it hikes crazy. Probably bettee overall for baggage sizes to do BA both ways but you do then need to go back to Munich after too. Use the B&B hotel hbf the night before....its very nice, comfortable, cheap and within 10 minutes of the station which also serves as a transport stop 15 minutes from the registration.  Get up literally like 5am with everything back the night before, shower and go. Transport is free anyway for festival ticket holders during the duration.  Would I just choose to travel in each day and back to a hotel?, on the basis of sleep and getting accommodation cheap enough for 3 nights i might just do especially if I picked the ticket up early enough. It doesn't feel like a festival in a normal sense....unless you are in general yoi have to exit on the paths outside the camping to walk down and in which also applies for getting water so have a stock up. Toilets are in the camping.
