viberunner
Watching now... If Jimmy Smits/Nero doesn't survive the episode I may boycott series 7 ! You missed the obvious... He's going to be the one, can be the only one, to tell Jax that his mom killed his dad... Edited December 13, 2013 by viberunner
Spindles
I've avoided this series so far because the first 90 seconds were such badly acted cheese I cringed at the thought I was watching it. I might have to revisit that if it has improved (if I can just stop grinding my teeth at the performances of the 2 'old ladies').
bunique
The acting isn't great in places but I find the writing and the drama more than makes up for it. Despite being serious, it doesn't take itself too seriously I think.
viberunner
I've avoided this series so far because the first 90 seconds were such badly acted cheese I cringed at the thought I was watching it. I might have to revisit that if it has improved (if I can just stop grinding my teeth at the performances of the 2 'old ladies'). I hated the initial watch of SoA too. I gave up very quickly too after a couple of dips in and out. I disliked how they were running around, seemingly invulnerable to law enforcement, clearly racist (blacks are expressly prohibited from joining) but they're not True Racists as the skinheads have actual Swastika tattoos. How they were made out to be semi-okay kind of guys because they banned drug dealing in Charming, but then they sold weapons for the IRA, and now the Real IRA. How wrong I was. First, remember it's a costume drama. Hamlet on bikes. Just give it the space that it's kind of set now, but it's also kind of set in a late 60s kind of now. And then remember it's Kurt "The Shield" Stutter at the the helm. They are unpleasant fucks. They are also shown in their best light too - as family men - but they are deeply unpleasant fucks and Sutter only seems to "let them off" so he can mutilate and destroy them another day. They are the agents of their own downfall, and I'm enjoying them being whittled down, even as I've actually grown quite fond of the characters. The first season is foreplay. Just watch it and get over it. Season two heats up a bit - horrors happen, but surely it's a one off kind of horror? Heheh. Season 3, set in Ireland, is the low point. But still worth sticking through as seasons 4, 5, and 6 are gobsmacking.
t8yman
cant disagree with any of that tbh. Jax's gradual transformation into Clay is brilliantly done, and Gemma's (I think in part - unintentional) evilness surfacing too.

She dies in Season 7 at his hands, doesn't she?
t8yman
Didnt know that, we shall see.
bunique
I'm guessing that's an assumption based on the loose connection between Hamlet and Sons? I can't see it happening. Jax talks of "doing what has to be done" but he's blind when it comes to Gemma.

t8yman
GOT is very hard to get into, sounds as if you have succeeded by now though. Its huge cast makes it very confusing as you have to remember millions of different names to understand what people are talking about. Once you are in, its amazing. avoid all spoilers and whip through em as fast as you can. its a hell of a ride.

Gave up the first time round but it's easily my favourite prog at the moment. Only a few episodes of S3 left and I'll be waiting with the rest of you. I've started the first book too and it really helps fill in some of the background details.

It has some really great British actors cropping up actually, always find I am often going oh but thats so and so from! It's brilliant once you get into it, I've got the last 2 left in season 2 ...then I need to free some Hard drive space/get a new hard drive for Season 3 as it's something really worth watching in HD. Ted Dansons Wig
This week's family guy...not sure what to make of it. Much as its been great over the years... metallimuse
Was in HMV earlier and was so tempted to buy the complete X-Files boxset including the two movies,it was only £50. Might get SOA series 1-4 in the sales I reckon,it's £30 atm.
t8yman
or £5.99 a month and you can watch it all on netflix?
gary1979666
Series 1-4 are on LoveFilm instant too - am 3 episodes in and enjoying it so far. Gutted last night - have GOT set up to record, but somehow it stopped recording after 30mins because there was a 5min overlap of X Factor/Xtra Factor for the missus. At least it's on repeat later, but its my highlight for a Monday.
