Campervans.....what checks

So, this will be my first year in the CV fields, I am currently converting a Peugeot Boxer to a campervan it's touch and go how 'ready' it will be for Glastonbury, so just wonddering what checks people have had re: permanent washing/cooking facilities.

So far it's fully insulated with 5 windows, fan and skylight. Floor, permanent bedframe and mattress. Expecting to have electrics installed and walls, but completion of kitchen/shower will be touch and go, but will hopefully have fridge in an a portable burner.

Has anyone taken a camper in the prcoess of conversion? If so what was your experience? Or generally how nerdy are they on camper facilities and permanency.

They were pretty strict last year if I recall . There were several workers who got turned away that I know of but not sure exact justification but possible that was just someone monitoring the workers campervans rather than general

My van has a full width rock and roll bed, a fridge with a shelf above it which has a 2 ring burner attached to shelf.  It's always been fine in both public and crew camping.

The rules are just top stop people throwing a mattress in a their work van.   So long as it looks like a proper leisure van/conversion you won't get a second glance!

Still none the wiser as to why it matters

I had a fixed bed and a kind of fixed sink. That was 2019. I think the fixed bed is a must. Try to get the sink fitted in the hole even if not usable?Screenshot_20250504_161049_Chrome.thumb.jpg.10b9a597b4c020ca1280a62b3718eee5.jpg

Yes, the bed frame is already in. I guess I need the kitchen unit in fot the fridge so so will try and prioritise the sink. Thanks

Yeah, exactly this. If it’s not just a panel van and looks vaguely like a camper then you’ll be fine. The people checking are festival goers too, they’re not hired dickheads looking for an excuse to ruin your weekend. That being said, a smile and a friendly attitude won’t hurt your cause either.

They’ve never even looked in mine.

Yeah hoping that might be the case. I mean from the outside, it's obviously a converted van due the windows, skylight, solar panels etc.

Great, feel reassured. Thanks

I’ve been in several years when the only evidence of a kitchen of any sort would be when you open the back, and I was never asked to. They’ll notice a made bed and it looking homely more than a working sink. You’ll be fine.

Just asked one of the people who wasn’t allowed her conversion in staff areas it was because she didn’t have correct insurance (so she got told ) in other words just someone without a clue . Someone had a chip on their shoulder that day

it’s only ever used at festivals or campsites so no need for shower, toilet or cooking. Coffee and bacon sandwich is all that’s needed! Fridge is for beer 😂

Had staff take a look in to check my NV200 (small MPV) which I have converted for part-time camping. Even though the bed wasn't obvious (seats needed to be folded away) they could see the sink and TV and they were fine with it. If you think there may be any doubt I would take a photo of the van in "night mode" with the bed made up. That way you can show it is clearly designed to be lived in. When you have all your gear in the back on the way in it's not always easy to visualise how it will look once set up.

Funnily enough next to us in 2019 was a Tonbridge Hire van with literally a mattress! We laughed and glad they got in. Wouldn't recommend though.

Don't bother an internal shower (waste of space for summer festival use!). Use a stand up "changing tent" and a 12v submersible Whale Pump (connected to a shower head) into a 10 litre "jerry can".  Boil a kettle of water on a gas stove and mix with cold in the jerry can.  A rubber shower mat makes it even better!

I suspect the biggest red flag would be vans with trade/corporate logos on the outside (so obviously not a campervan).  As long as you aren't taking the piss you will be fine!

I will be having a shower, for a year of travel (aim is to have an off grid camper) but not a priority for the festival. Yep already have a pop up tent, collapsible bucket and rechargeable shower from camping days.

Coincidentally I also had exactly the same conversation with her today!

As you say, it was someone just being a pain in the  arse enforcing non existant rules.

Thankfully the non existant rule doesn't apply to public campervan fields.
