Wunderhorse are on an upward trajectory, I was very impressed at their Park show this year. Would honestly say they were the best band I saw this year, they really went for it. Could see them getting a much bigger slot next time. New single is superb too.

Yeah they were great, but nowhere near headline chat

Big fan of Fountaines, but I do not see them headlining.

Reminds me of Foals 10 or so years ago.. Looked for all the world they were nailed on to headline and their momentum just never quite reached the level needed to secure the headline slot.

Fountaines are big enough to headline almost any other UK festival already, but Glasto attracts such a high calibre of act and also has to set aside one of the headline slots for an act that appeals to the slightly older generation, I just don't see them fitting anytime soon. They will be back of course and no doubt they will be very high up the bill, but I cannot see them taking one of the big 3 spots in either 27 or 28.

Have to disagree there. 2028 headliners. If the 1975 can get the call up, then a proper band like Fontaines are nailed on and deserve it 100 percent.

They’re at least as good as many who have headlined. Why does the festival need to set aside a slot for an act that appeals to old duffers? It holds it back, they can take their chairs to Acoustic

I guess you’d have to ask the Eavis family that? But clearly it’s policy to have at least one headliner who is either a mass appeal or an older generation appeal.
Neil, Elton, Coldplay, Radiohead, Muse etc..There will always be at least one headliner who appeals to the masses and / or old folks.

Fontaines are deffo headliner material imo (and I am a fairly old duffer😉), especially on there current trajectory and would be nice to see a band on the up or at their peak headline imo. If they can follow up Romance with another big album then there already rich songbook would make for some set (what they have already across 4 LPs is rich as it is tbf).

In terms of bands of the time so speak, are Wolf Alice not worth a shout also? Their Other Stage sub slot was brilliant imo and they command a pretty big following (whether big enough for Pyramid headliner is another thing I guess). But I deffo think their music and presence is well suited....

I’d love to see a ‘new’ band like Fontaines headline but I think that, because of all the micro-cultures that exist now owing to Instagram and TikTok’s algorithms, the majority of new headliners now will be ‘superstars’ like Olivia and Dua rather than a band that’s worked their way up. While I don’t think they’d have as small of a crowd as SZA, much of the general public will ask ‘who?’ if Fontaines were announced as a headliner.

I mean, if we're going down the 'asking who' route with headliners... I hold my hands up, I had no idea who SZA was.

I'm not ignorant to acts/genres I'm not into, I'd just genuinely never come across her. I put it in a WhatsApp group I'm in and, after some initial finger pointing, it turned out quite a large chunk of the group (with a very varied music taste) also didn't. I guess it kind of showed with the crowd she got in the end as well.

I don't think Glastonbury are afraid of taking a chance on bands/acts, and bumping them up to that next level. By the time the next Fontaines record comes around, I don't think it's even taking a chance. They're now selling out big headline summer shows - albeit they aren't stadiums, but selling out the likes of Finsbury Park still takes some doing.

They will 100% headline. The only way I see that not happening is if their next record bombs, but it won't - they're extremely talented, ambitious, and on the up, with a fast growing fanbase.

Ye, I just can't see it.

They will headline other or sub on pyramid in 27 I would imagine.. But do not see them ever quite getting to the level of pyramid headliner.

Easy to get a little carried away with the very isolated micro climate on this forum.. As acts such as SZA and 1975 demonstrate, we are a little out of touch.

It's already been confirmed they were offered the sub slot this year and turned it down so likely they are headliner or nothing at this point.

In what way do those acts demonstrate that? Nobody really thought SZA should have headlined. The 1975 were obviously headline sized though.

Neither of those acts you've listed were first choice to headline, they were the plan B.

Fontaines DC are not a headline shout from an isolated micro climate, far from it. Romance propelled them to new heights - selling out big outdoor shows across the summer. Multiple music publications are also giving them the 'future Glastonbury headliners' title.

To turn down a sub slot, only to do that 2/3 years would be a little odd, though not out the realms of possibility if they had a record that bombed (they won't, though).

They'll headline Glastonbury.

I love Fontains DC and think they could definitely could do a Pyramid Headline slot the shows they have easily sold out this summer prooves that. They have a solid set of tracks for a big slot.

The two doubts i have on them as a headliner

are assuming there is still conflict in Palestine and perhaps even if there isnt, they will definitl not STFU and be quiet about that some of the atrocities that are happening -  and the BBC wont like that.  I could see Kneecap comming out as guests aswell

Bigger acts than them have headlined the Other Stage.   I would say probably The Prodigy, QOTSA and definitely Lana Del Rey.  So i could see them as Other or sub in a year where there are big headlines so I guess it depends whos on and if they would accept that.

I recon they will get a Leeds /Reading headline slot first.  They are still early days in there career - So could easily be held back for a headline of a Glastonbury after 27 or 28

Na!

No deal. At least one of them has to be Gaga. After that you can have as much nonsense as you want

I'm happy to swap Fred Again for Gaga, that wouldn't be a problem at all.

Over the years of working the gates, I've never seen so many people leave early on the Sunday as they did on SZA day, so that would suggest the whole pyramid crowd are out of touch!

I have never seen as many people outside a gig venue with signs asking for tickets as Fontaines did at Finsbury Park. That includes Oasis the other day. My mate put our two drop out tickets on resale and they sold within 20 seconds. It's not a microclimate, they're massive.

I'm gonna assume this is why their TRNSMT set is nowhere to be seen on iPlayer? Because everything else seems to be..

    • I think it happened a week ago. Btw, Ela Minus looks like a great addition for the opening free day now. Anyone been to this venue? Is there like a closed place or they just put an open air stage somewhere in the park?
    • I see the weekend tickets have sold out. When did that happen? I recall seeing that Friday day tickets had all gone but was surprised to see today that weekend ones had too.
    • I thought some time back that I could see Get Down Services getting a slot in Woodsies
    • Tickets on sale when I'm abroad (I'm assuming this sells out in minutes), and the actual dates could not be worse for me work-wise. Still going to try to get tickets, of course, but god damn!
    • I'm personally confident that Slipknot will be one of the headliners next year (no insider info just lines up with them likely releasing an album soon)    Then there's the headliner that's never played the festival before which the bookers have alluded to so that's one of Blink, Foos, NIN, Nickelback and possibly Pearl Jam or even Bon Jovi    The third band I also think will be a new headliner who are being bumped up so Deftones, Offspring, Paramore Etc.    I'd love Slipknot, Foos and Paramore but realistically i'd go with Slipknot, Blink and Deftones
