I think Sziget gambled a little on Anyma's Sphere set going viral and it hasn't. Saturday day tickets usually sell really well but the line-up doesn't currently contain any names that casual music fans might recognise. Think we will get a couple of decent sized acts announced for the Saturday in next announcement.

But come on they literally did zero promotion of Anyma and the show itself not to mention the hopefully new stage.

IF they really actually have a nice new stage with Anyma visuals as the best possible way to experience it, thag day will sell great.

I would presume it will be the same as rock en seine. Taken from there Twitter account.

That's decent marketing spiel.

Something Sziget seems almost entirely incapable of delivering.

In all the years I've been, sziget have always struggled with marketing and communication.

Part of the pull I guess. 😄

not surprised Shawn Mendes Is the fast seller. Back in 2018 was already big than he kept producing mainstream records. He linked two generations. Plus he took a pause from the tour so people were expecting him back. Anyma and ASAP instead, as predicatable, have the lowest sale so far. Weak days, they must add something interesting in next announcement tò keep sales up

He's also already sold out Smukfest in Denmark, the only other european show announced.

To be fair Smukfest was already sold out before he was announced. I know because I looked to go when he was announced but yeah he certainly is selling very well

Been at Shawn Mendes show yesterday, it's not a bad headliner at all to be honest. Good backing band, nice work with the crowd.
The new album also differs from his early works, check it if you like something like The Lumineers.

Really surprised he opens with 'There's nothin' holding me back'. Would've thought that was the one to finish with tbh.

I thought Anyma day would sell better, since sziget organizers tried to targeted the ex Balaton Sound-goers.  (Balatonsound was a 4days purely edm fest, with approx 170000 attendees) seems it doesn’t really work.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I don't know one name announced for the Anyma day so far (and hadn't heard of him initially either!)

For a day that's previously had radio-friendly names like Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix and David Guetta I can see why local casual music fans might not be rushing to buy tickets.

If any day needs another big announcement it's this one - it's a Saturday, so day tickets should be selling out really!

Balaton sound crowd would go to other festivals. In the region Untold Festival has got a brilliant lineup, those into EDM would go there. Or other EDM festivals like creamfields and tomorrowland.

Balaton festival had a bit of the same issue as Sziget, marketing was a bit sh*t. Relied heavily on Lake Balaton rather than the actual festival. Same way Sziget is relying on Budapest to sell it, rather than the actual lineup.

As well as dwindling numbers and the contract running out.

I can't see how/where Snow Patrol would fit on the current line-up tbh.

i thought the same about papa roach and yet here we are 😂

Really wondering what the next lineup drop will look like. It’s either a hit or miss for me.
With some good undercard names they can make a very strong lineup. But i don’t wanna get my hopes up lol.

Lots of teasing by sziget at their IG comment section so guess we’ll find out pretty soonish

And they’re consistently claiming there’s more rock/indie, so I’ll be very disappointed if there’s not at least 4/5 more acts I’m interested in

It's not gonna be St. Vincent, who just announced a show in Budapest.

but why hold these indie bands back? People go to other festivals like Pukkelpop/Lowlands/Victorious etc. instead, the flights have to be booked early...

I think it will be just the same as the previous announcements. EDM with a bit of indie/rock thrown in, wether they are well known indie/rock isopen to debate.

Just seen Way Out West announced Little Simz yesterday. She's playing Friday 8 August. Hope she's not another amazing act who's around at the time of Sziget that they miss out on. This one would be unforgivable!

The addition of her alone would made my Sziget.

    • Its just going to be another dementia tax isn't it? The issue is this is going to be seen as a continuation of the labour government that have already raised taxes 1000% above manifesto promises.
    • One thing that Burnham has been talking about is scrapping inheritance tax and replace it with a social care levy ... which would be less progressive, but might be a good idea if was a solution for the social care crisis. Would need to sell it well to a public who would prefer not to pay more tax.
    • Maybe you should put your name forward to be Burnham's chancellor.
    • But I think the point of that Dan Needle tax thing...we need to put up income tax, for all incomes (and thresholds should be unfrozen).
    • There are no easy answers...more than anything we need growth...and probably main ways of getting that is borrowing more to invest in stuff that makes us super sexy, and/or cut taxes on business and wealth generation which would mean less money to spend on public services and welfare and would obviously be super unpopular and get you chucked out of govt. On top of all that got an aging population, a growing welfare bill, a call for higher spending on defence, housing inequality, higher borrowing costs, and probably a load more sh*t on the way due to the Iran war (although so far it hasn't been that bad?)
