Just seen this... It's a bizarre move - surely sabotaging their own arena gig? Or are they expecting everyone will be so blown away they immediately want to see them again at arena prices? 🤷‍♀️

Aside from the super dedicated fans who'd do both anyway, it's probably different a different crowd for the most part.

 

Far more people will see the footage / hear the radio coverage* than happen to be in that one specific field in Liverpool and so yeah, this will on balance help sell tickets for the December shows.

 

*especially considering playing this means that they'll get played far beyond the Big Weekend coverage.

yeah agree with this, the coverage definitely helps and 90% of these tickets are going to the Liverpool city region, so a relatively small area. I've definitely been motivated to see bands at either a future festival or their own gig by watching Big Weekend. The 1975 at Reading was one, I was adamant I wasn't going to see them but then caught some tracks on Big Weekend which changed my mind, and I'm glad I did as they were amazing.

I don't see the issue, a lot of people outside of efestivals will be up for seeing Mumford & Sons. Big Weekend at 35k and £37 will go very quick.

Oh I have no doubt it will sell as i said earlier this week pricing at £37 lets you get away with a lot of things. But surely the people who really like Mumford and Sons would rather go to the tour than an hour at Big Weekend.

Unless you're in Liverpool or the surrounding areas it's probably not really a choice between the two, as you can't get Big Weekend tickets anyway

Yeah, their new single 'Rushmere' is currently on Radio 1's A-list. 

I think the only other bands with mid-30s+ members they still support are The 1975, Foals, Biffy Clyro, Paramore, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, London Grammar, The xx, Everything Everything, The Wombats, and (randomly) Thirty Seconds To Mars. Might be a couple of others I'm forgetting about though...

 

The likes of Muse, Kings of Leon, Kasabian, Foo Fighters, The Killers, etc all stopped being supported in the last 5 or so years.

and when they said Glastonbury headliner level this morning they are the last band which would have come to mind.
