I mean, it's kind of bullshit ... but I guess they're trying to save their tour.

So was the manufactured rage about MP safety. Now that everyone has called bullshit it’s time to move on.

their tour would have been fine btw. Probably need larger venues now.

People aren’t calling for kneecap to be cancelled because they’re pro Palestine, they are calling for them to be cancelled because they’re pro Hamas and called for people to kill Tory MPs.

Saying they are on the same side as IDLES is ridiculous.

You understand that these aren't literal manifestos published by Kneecap. Snoop Dogg raps about murdering policemen but I strongly doubt he wants us all to go out and do that. Very easy to take strong political statements in art as literal, totally devoid of context and nuance (they actually dealt with it in the film with the slightly less offensive 'Brits out'.

Anyway they've cleared up exactly this in their released statement - that actually they don't support Hamas or think we should kills MPs. It feels a bit ridiculous that that needed to be said but I suppose people do take things literally, hence this thread.

Indeed. Hopefully all those MPs and others complaining will accept their apology and make their own apologies for supporting genocide.

I just want to say thanks for sharing this @CaledonianGonzo, I watched it late last night.

Whatever happens with Kneecap, I think GFL needs to do better this year. It’s clear they didn’t take as strong a position on Palestine/Gaza as they did on Ukraine.

Whatever their reasoning was for this at the time, for me it’s quite clear now that they need to be far stronger in the their messaging.

Terrorism doesn’t appear in a vacuum and literature like this helps us understand.

This image, provocative as it may be, doesn’t insinuate support and it could be argued that in fact, it shows a willingness to obtain a deeper understanding of a very complicated situation.

aw come on man.

It's either A- support or B- a wind up, it certainly isn't what you claim fs. Why would they post it in twitter if it's just his bedtime reading to aid his understanding? Totally ridiculous view.

I get the whole thing about things being taken out of context but it's straight up confusing to say "Let us be unequivocal: we do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah." when there is a literal video of them saying Up both of them, no? How was that video taken out of context? Genuine question because I find it contradictory and confusing.

You can't make clear political statements, as a politically motivated act, and then just deny you said it.

I mean, even without the book, DJ Provai in his balaclava is hardly a politically neutral persona.

This is a great point.

Why are some so up in arms when Israel is in the firing line… but don’t get as worked up by their years of republican imagery?

That's plausible but alongside what was actually said on stage you can't deny it looks like it takes on a different meaning.

As one poster says, someone at Glasto they met last year had friends who died in the terror attack. Personally if that was me I would feel very uncomfortable knowing there is an act on the farm showing support for the same group who killed innocent Jewish men women and children.

To be clear this isn't a call for them to be taken off the lineup, but I think these are things we should be thinking about.

So now education equals support?

And yes, it’s most definitely also a wind up too. A great one at that.

So their politics should or shouldn't be taken seriously?

I'd argue it's quite childish to be on the "wind up" in these emotionally charged times.

When people were demonstrating and showing their opposition to the British and American slaughter of innocent Iraqis, people weren't on the wind up by showing support for Al Qaeda.

It was actually me who met that person and it was a very productive conversation.

But there in lies the point - while we can appreciate that some dialogue may make another person uncomfortable, it should prompt conversation and healthy debate and not censorship.

To put it another way, I would have felt very uncomfortable if I didn’t see support for the people of Gaza/Palestine and will be very disappointed if GFL don’t take a stronger stance this year.

Just a reminder folks, this thread will remain on moderated content for now. Keep it civil and on point please. Whilst everybody is entitled to their own opinion on the subject, personal attacks on other members over a difference of opinions or trying to steer the conversation into argument territory will not be tolerated.

That’s their whole act?

And I’d argue they’ve by doing so have raised more support and attention for Palestinians than many other artists at the moment.
