Really doesn’t.

Just to clarify - do you condemn their comment about killing MPs?

It was inappropriate but I don’t condemn them for it. I’m disgusted with many of our current MPs who are doing much worse than saying hurty words.

As a fellow Irishman you could also mention the deliberate killing of Cpl Dermot McLaughlin and also understand from our own history the occupied have a right to resist their own oppression.

It’s quite strange logic to call me out for not mentioning killing of an Irish soldier by the IDF nearly 40 years ago - which is also abhorrent - and very condescending to assume I don’t have an understanding of our history.

But that’s off topic, so let’s please keep this civil.

Was it hostile, though?  Really?

I thought this was a fair piece of reportage that came out afterwards

Tbf, I said what it felt like to him. I don’t think it was hostile at all but it also wasn’t the place to question how he indicated he felt (and rather, I hoped he walked away from the encounter feeling a little different).

Israel and Jews are not interchangeable terms, and in fact it’s quite antisemitic to suggest they are.

The idea that this is all as a result of a global, money-backed conspiracy is quite clearly rooted in anti-semitism to me.

Hurty words describing an act that saw 2 MPs assassinated in this country within the last decade.

Also while we are on the topic of kneecap- they produce sh*t music for morons. Hope they get booted off the lineup for that alone.

Morrissey could never have come up with a lyrics like:

I'm K-Holed off my head

This sh*t puts Rhinos to bed

I’ll start to give a sh*t about bands  like kneecap being offensive as soon as someone from the government offers the same views on what is happening in Gaza as they do on this subject. Until then I’ll stick to obsessing about clashes at Glasto…..

While I don’t particularly like their music, what they’re doing for the Irish language through their music, is incredible.

When did I ever claim that?

Clearly you didn't.  What HJWright is trying to do is weaponise the 'antisemite' label.  It's heartening to watch this thread unfold, because it's going very differently to similar debates a few years ago.  People are no longer cowed into silence about the evil butchery being inflicted by the IDF because they're worried about the antisemite label:  that tactic has now lost all credibility with the public.

Unfortunately, Glastonbury has also lost all credibility when it comes to this issue.  They cancelled the comedian Paul Currie on the back of an absolutely trumped-up antisemitism furore, and they cancelled the screening of a film which exposed the hypocrisy and shady dealings which led to the antisemitism claims against Corbyn.  I have no doubt they'll cancel Kneecap too if they suspect it could cause them any kind of political embarrassment.  The festival used to have a radical ethos, but that's all but gone now - it's now about hollow gestures and slogans, and a willingness to cancel the few remaining true radicals if that's what it takes to give them an easy life.

I’m not aware they specifically mentioned these two incidents.

if you think really hard about it then you might realise that there is a link between saying 'kill your local MP' and 2 MPs getting assassinated within the last decade and why that makes it particularly distasteful.

It wasn’t just that they didn’t get punished.

I googled it and they did get punished, two got demoted. Also it was over 5 years ago and a lot has happened since then. I can't remember every news story ever.

100%.

They caught my eye a fair while before last year's festival so went to see their Woodsies set and as have said on here before the satire side came out much more live imo.  I really enjoyed them, and Fine Art is a v.decent album imo. I'll keep out of the wider debate beyond saying that I hope they don't get pulled. I had the discussion with my wife previously - I am of Irish descent and my wife is Irish and while I went to see them she didn't want to based on some of the headlines around them at the time (actually think she would have reconsidered the perception fed by the media had she gone along).

I don’t think artists should adjust their art in case it offends someone. In many cases artists seek to offend. That’s good.

I find it pretty distasteful the faux outrage over this and not that our country and MPs are facilitating a genocide.

But you appear to have concern about MPs safety yet weren’t aware of this. Target practice related to the leader of the opposition. Mmmmm

maybe I was at the time and I've forgotten. I've looked at it and i think it's also bad and they should obviously have been punished.

You presumably don't think they should have been punished? Hurty words are okay so surely shooting a pic is fine too- no one was hurt

The “evil butchery” being committed by the IDF a few years ago?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
