And predictably she is already frantically backtracking on her leadership challenge. What a wally.

She obviously wanted to trigger someone else in moving, someone like Streeting...who if wants the job has to move quickly before Burnham gets his magic seat

Seems to me people want some sort of change even though they are not agreed what that change should be, and they want an outsider to be that change, which helps explain the appeal of both Farage and Polanski, and also Johnson and now Burnham.

Yeah I get the whole left wing union leader firebrand image and all...but this is kind of bollocks.

They have put up taxes on businesses and wealth taxes and brought in workers rights and renters rights and increased the min wage. What they did that upset so many was tried to means test winter fuel payments for pensioners, and they haven't stopped the boats...and most of all Starmer is just a bit of a prick.

What labour has done is abandon it's urban liberal and ethnic minority base who have done one to the Greens.

The issue with this government is nothing to do with not being “left wing” enough. To me it’s more been down to poor communication, a lack of hope and poor decision making. As you say they have done several things I would consider left wing. I think many have (in my view wrongly) tried to turn Middle East politics into a right wing/left wing divide and I think that’s wrong.

Looks like its going to happening and Burham might be left on the sidelines. The NEC can have a long campaign to give him chance o get in but its a long shot.

Its not abut tacking left or right its building a coalition around policies with a common theme. And having a person who can sell them. People don't want to nationalise water companies to own the commanding heights of the economy, their bills have gone up by a third and the rivers are full of sh*t. And a controlled migration policy with actual deportation of people we don't want will be a part of it.

Well that will do nothing for their chances.

I think hearing West talk about the cabinet chosing the best leader between themselves is a flawed plan. What if the best candidate is not in the cabinet, also the talk about leaving out the members is a bit dismissive.

Just the same as the Tories 😉

It would probably be better to have a quick coronation instead of the whole thing dragging on through the summer when there's all this other sh*t going on...but there's no particular person that could even come close to uniting the party at moment, except Burnham maybe.

Maybe just have to stick with Starmer hahaha

I think if there is a coronation there needs to be someone with some level of support in the membership. I’m not sure a Streeting or Mahmood fit that criteria. I fear what will happen is a Streeting coronation meaning most cabinet people keep their jobs and just plod along until it’s Farages turn.

I heard an interview with Richard Burgon (a politician who I am not the biggest fan of) and agree with his point that there should not be a coronation and Burnham should be considered as a candidate, I would expand to Sadiq Khan and any of the other mayors who wanted to put their name forward. What I don’t agree is lowering the threshold of MPs to be a candidate, my view is the Labour leader should have broad support within the PLP.

I also agree with him Labour need a fresh message and messengers. He talked about apologising for some of the u turns which I agree with. He also said they should apologise for their stance on Israel /Palestine. I personally think this would be a big mistake and I think it’s a topic (low priority to most of the electorate) that they do not want to get bogged down in.

Suddenly McDonnell and co going to backtrack on their Starmer must go.

It seems like the left are getting behind Burnham. The rules mean none of them could get on the ballot. It’s a mad situation that Starmers biggest supporters and biggest critics now need him to stay in power.

Labour would tear itself apart if it was a Streeting coronation.

Surely someone would stand against him, even if it ends up being Louise Haigh or someone.

Kind of amazing that they've managed to get in this position after winning such a big majority, I guess problem was always that they won it with a relatively small percentage of the vote, and Reform were a close 2nd in lots of seats.

With the mention of Mandelson and Burnham that sounds like a block Streeting, pro Burnham post.

Definitely.

I'd really like Rayner to be PM, but she's unpopular, and she knows it...so yeah get behind Burnham.
