Imagine letting Fender , previously successful sub, whose currently slaying the UK on dates , sales and general decency, slip through the net while you book last years live band who are right now in court defending the onstage creepy behaviour they find acceptable. If it’s ‘75 no Fender, they’ve dropped the ball massively.

(Assuming he hasn’t said nah).

Calm down everyone... they're both shite.

Is he smashing ticket sales? He can sell out in Newcastle many times over as it’s a cult and wearing a toon shirt to a gig is imop weird. I’m still being advertised London tickets via email so I really don’t think he is anywhere else

Just a single anecdote but one of my fave memories from all the Reading festivals I've gone to.

We were in the front pit in 2022 waiting for the 1975 to come on. There was an American couple we chatted to, they said they had booked the trip just to see RATM and had never listened to the 1975. Said to them you gonna love this. Their faces were like 😮 😮 as the band came on and one song in they were pushing forward to get closer to the stage. Rarely seen such an immediate 'dunno who they are but they're great' reaction 😄

That'll have been If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know) into Love Me, won't it? Top combo, that.

Firmly in the "no thanks" camp for 1975. Was bad enough standing through about 3 songs in Williams Green when they did the secret set around 10 years ago. Won't be subjecting myself to a full headliner set, so strongly hoping that the rumours are wrong.

Not singling you out specifically here @Mark_safc, but you lead onto a point here - not saying this is utterly prevalent among detractors but a large number definitely seem to point to the first record as the catch-all and leave it there.

I will say that if anybody is pinning their musical impressions of The 1975 on their first record and nothing else - and again, @Mark_safc, definitely not a gripe at you! - then I'd be interested to see where you'd land on the variation of stuff since then.

Is 100% correct. Away from the pyramid when the headliners are on there’s some great memorable parties everywhere.

Seriously Chic would absolutely smash a Pyramid headliner set. The whole field would be rocking, especially the “picnic blanket, cheap bubbly, radio two mums”, even the “indie dads” would be dad dancing throughout.

For what it is worth, I can confirm he's shifted 92,641 copies so far of the new record at today's update.

And for a similar note, here are some musicians wearing football shirts.

It would if they could get the mix right. Seen them twice and there's just been something frustratingly off musically on both occasions, which has been sadly frustrating.

If he’s the perfect Pyramid headliner then the Pyramid “has gone”.

Here’s some actual perfect Pyramid headliners: Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Stevie Wonder. Even the likes of Elton John are a million times more suitable

The "perfect" Pyramid headliner is like Schrödinger's cat. It either exists, or doesn't exist and everyone's opinion is valid.

The 1975 would absolutely smash the headline spot!  Great live band!  Plenty of well known singalong hits, the perfect festival band.  Plus extra points for being British.

From a 50 year old I totally agree, Ive seen them live several times now and each time they’ve smashed it out of the park. I took my dad who’s 74 to the Brum gig on the last tour and he was blown away with how good they are and commented in his opinion The 1975 are the best live band of the last 20 years. Easily 100k attendance for their slot on Pyramid Stage. Matty Healy is a true rock star not many bands have one, he’s also British we should be proud of that.

Snoop Dogg in a Norwich shirt? Wut?

They had the Radio 1 Big Weekend in Norwich about 10 years ago and he wore it for the whole performance

I know someone who worked at the hotel all the acts were staying at and she saw him, panicked and just called him Mr Dogg

Outstanding anecdote. I'm more curious about Ezra from Vampire Weekend being in a... QPR top?

Having staunchly been in support of The 1975 as a headliner, had a crisis of confidence on them being there after I went to bed last night though.

When was the last time an artist basically came in to headline without a wider run? I'm guessing probably Kendrick - Glastonbury was only his third show proper since 2019, and just the second of 2022, having played Milan three days prior.

It can be done, clearly. But starting to think we might have heard other plans for shows if that's the case. (Big Weekend and BST being two credible shouts, perhaps.)

    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
    • This Isaac wood news has dropped right out of left field. Great to hear he feels up to doing live stuff again    what will he play? Solo stuff , old BCNR stuff?    It’s only in November , it’s a bold booking to for someone who has previously had some struggles to come back and play a load of new stuff to crowds that big
    • Wow, Blink-182 back so soon. They’re the band they’ve never booked then. Great booking if they’ve got them.    Deftones, Papa Roach, Knocked Loose   Lamb of God   Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte   Megadeth   Slipknot, Gojira, Motionless In White   All Time Low
