Didn't Mike Dean admit recently they knew in the VAR box a challenge was a red but decided not to tell the ref as the match was already volatile? Seems to be part and parcel of the game nowadays.

He did, yes. It was a hair pull by Spurs' Romero on Chelsea defender Cucurella near the end of a Chelsea-Spurs game very early on last season, which generated a lot of outcry.

Very much felt like somebody saying the quiet part out loud. The PGMOL refuted this insinuation but it feels like the kind of thing that would stick in the popular consciousness.

Corrupt 😄 its a massive anti-liverpool conspiracy isnt it? Course it is.

its a bad decision leading to an 'im sorry' from PGMOL, Brighton had three of em last season and Arsenal had one, and neither of them bleated and whinged anywhere near as much. Suck it up, use it as inspiration, and get on with it.

Newcastle had a PGMOL apology as well for a game against Crystal Palace where VAR incorrectly disallowed a goal, and on the same day, West Ham got one for a similar-ish incident at Chelsea. Of course it's not a unique thing. It's part of the mis-selling of VAR imo, where it was introduced as the magic bullet that'll fix football officiating whereas it can only be as good as the people using it.

The Diaz one is a huge f**k up, indisputably, as is the first of Jota's 2 yellows (imo the Jones one is one that's technically correct, if obviously one that you'd be annoyed by), but I think there's just too much of a willingness to say "CONSPIRACY!" in football and particular with refs, if perhaps reflective of a society that screams conspiracy theories at things that are easily explainable too readily. Liverpool are starting to come across almost like they think they're the first team ever that an incorrect ref decision has screwed over.

Oh and that Van Dijk one at Newcastle a few weeks ago was a red. As indeed was a goal Isak had disallowed at Anfield early last season that would've made it 2-0. Just because I'm a football fan so can't help myself.

Saturdays disallowed goal is on a completely different level. There is absolutely no possibility of a decision having to be made, it wasn't a case of "is his toenail in front of or behind the defender" he was a good metre onside. VAR actually decided, very quickly, that he was clearly onside.

The reason they called "check complete" was because somehow (apparently) they thought the on-field ref had given the goal, even though (presumably) they could see Diaz stop celebrating, see/hear the Spurs fans celebrate the "offside". They clearly realised their "communication" error and had enough time to rectify before the Spurs free-kick was taken, but CHOSE not too.

This was corruption plain and simple, carried out by a group of officials who had just come back from officiating in Abu Dhabi, a country which coincidentally own Man City.

Man City had just lost to Wolves, meaning that a win for Liverpool would have put them top.

Just wait until Liverpool manage to get improvements in how the game is officiated to the benefit of all teams.

wasn't VAR meant to be the holy grail for perfect decisions, some people need to realise that so much is subjective.

This is an important fight for you all, but you're too partizan to see it. YET

Liverpool saving the entire premier league from dreadful decisions! Thank you!

But where was this energy prior to them being on the receiving end of one? Oooohhh . . . thats right, they only care when it affects them, and then throw this blanket of 'its for the good of everyone' around it. Poppycock.

(i havnt used the term poppycock in ages, its a much more polite way of saying bullshit, i like it)

What about all the other teams who have suffered at the hands of VAR errors?

Liverpool insist this isn’t just about them. They aren’t asking for special treatment. They believe a fully transparent review which leads to improvements in the VAR process will benefit all clubs and help ensure a similar situation doesn’t happen again

Thought you stopped watching football, due to the state of the game.

Almost

Can just about manage European games as there's far less nonsense from refs and none of the obvious bias.

Anyway, hopefully this will blow the whole thing apart and we'll get closer to a level playing field.

Forgive me because I don’t know completely but I’m the WC didn’t we use automated offside calls? How accurate is was it and surely we could use that in the EPL?

Yes, and that system is also used in the Champions League and in Serie A. However, the Premier League opted against it, deciding instead to use extra cameras for VAR. Which, clearly, hasn't exactly fixed the issue.

Maybe this will inspire the PL to use it for next season. Not that it helps anyone if we get more screw-ups this season like Diaz, or the twin f**k-ups that cost Arsenal and Brighton at the same time last season.

The problem with the Diaz goal had absolutely nothing to do with a failure of the VAR technology.

Being kind it was an error of judgement by 5 humans.

In reality.....

How long does it take to download an audio file? Or even doctor it to cover your ass.

The plot thickens!

released now! 🙂

Just came across as incompetence for me. Too many people involved, no hierarchy or process.

Pretty embarrassing that's whats in place when so much money is involved.
