The paperwork getting back into Uk might make that tight

During festival season artists play in the UK and mainland Europe over a single weekend all the time. Just this week Rock en Seine (25th-27th August) announced a lineup including the Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Angel Olsen (All Points East, 25th August) and Foals and Wet Leg (Reading & Leeds, same dates)

As for their slot, those dates suggest the most realistic option is the Thursday.

Going to throw in a potential Thursday (if not Walkmen) or Garden headliner nobody's recently mentioned - Public Service Broadcasting. Played the Big Top years ago, headlining Deer Shed so they're active, releasing a record this year (the Proms BBC centenary tribute), have a live show made for a big stage.

Hope not saw em a few months ago thought they were dreadful.

Edit: garden fair enough no problem but the Thursday headliner is harder to get away from. Think they'd be a bit dull for that

Very believable line up. Never heard of/listened to Delgados. Which bands are they stylistically similar to?

Hard to compare them with anyone - early stuff was quite punky, later stuff more lush with strings, etc. I'd suggest listen to 'No danger', 'Pull the wires from the wall', 'Coming in from the cold' and 'Aye today'. If you don't like any of them, they're probably not for you!

They feel more like a Big Top headliner, than Garden Stage headliner to me though.

I saw them in London last weekend and they were playing as an 8 piece. Strings, flutes. It was beautiful. Much more suited to the Garden than the Big Top in my opinion. Think they're already playing Deer Shed, so are doing festivals.

Fair enough. Wasn't sure if they were well known enough to headline Garden. Can imagine most under 40's saying "who the fuck are The Delgados?" 😄

Maybe they could play 2nd last on Garden, a bit like Arab Strap a couple of years ago?

That'd be pretty spot on, tbf.

Out of interest, did they give any indication that they're working on recording any new stuff?

Delgadoes are much too big for big Top: they are headlining deer shed. Either garden sub or garden headliner (or woods sub)

Really! Teenage Fanclub played Big Top. Surely they're a bigger deal than The Delgados?

BTW, I'm not dissing Delgados. As I explained earlier, they are my dream booking. I'd be delighted if they played Woods headliner - the longer their set, the happier I'll be - genuinely one of my top 10 favourite bands ever! 🙂

Took my 23 year old son to see them in Sheffield as mentioned above. I described them as a bit Mogwai with songs and epic strings. He'd never heard of them but was impressed. Crowd at Leadmill almost entirely blokes in 50s (says he). I don't really want to see bands playing old stuff at EOTR, but I might go to Deer Shed again (it's a lovely festival).
