Relief I guess! Kwarteng looked pretty happy after he was sacked too.

So what now? Got to be Rishi?

A week long story leadership contest then BAU.

Your guess is as good as mine for the winner, Rishi would be my guess but it depends on a few others.

If they can do it in a week, why did it drag on so much before?!

I can see someone standing unopposed to get it sorted.

Because that contest went to the membership, this one isn’t (and they realise they can’t have another 8 week long one again).

Was watching tory mp Tobias Ellwood on Politics Live at lunchtime who was trying to keep his shit together. He did a *really* good job of revealing just how riven by divisions the tory party is.

Steviewevie would have loved it because it ended up being a debate about how the tory party was fucked because they'd lurched to the right with the ERG crowd and so were at open war with the one nation centrists. He was pleading for a more centrist reality check. Tissue paper between the one nation centrists and Starmer...if Truss had stayed on I could have seen some peeling away of tory mps towards Labour...might still happen...

Nah, Sunak is still despised by the membership. Mordaunt would be a better shout. But who honestly knows what goes through the collective mind of the tory party membership.

They should go to the public and live with the outcome.

Beeb talking head was suggesting that the next PM would be wise to acknowledge the need for electoral mandate and so make a commitment to hold a GE in the summer and use that as a deadline to focus the tory party into unity. Although can't see it happening myself.

Too soon for Boris if he came back it would be after this investigation if he mislead parliament.

Between Rishi and Penny for me and if Penny has been bought off with foreign secretary

Truss was certainly not up to the task, but I'll take her gross incompetence over BJ's self-serving dishonesty and bigotry any day of the week,

I think there’s a level of misogyny with people that happily ignore all of Johnson’s failures and claim Truss is the worst ever.

You have to be so fucking blinkered to say that.  He didn't crash the entire UK economy ffs.

As if Truss managed that in 44 days. Johnson's fingerprints are all over the current shitshow, Truss was just the one to give it the nudge of the cliff.

Anyone who thinks she inherited an economy that was in robust shape would be in your words 'so fucking blinkered'.

I think its likely personally.  3 to 6 month election is impossible not to have I think.

I expect it's less about who is PM and most of the arguments behind the scenes will be about a sharing out of the cabinet jobs to make sure it's a cabinet of 'unity'. It's likely to be a puppet PM whose main job will be keeping a grip of cabinet divisions long enough to make it to the next GE.

    • 1000% agree with this. I was there last night, ridiculous how good he was.
    • Hi Everyone!   I need your help. I'm trying work out who was playing at The Wishing Well at 3am on the Monday morning at the 2025 festival - this was once the official setlist had ended. The music was down tempo, bass heavy, kept evolving, just mesmerising. Anyone have any ideas? and/or was there as well?
