Now we know for sure festivals will be increasingly likely to happen

I don't thing anything as changed. Its gone stale and starting to become a decreasing chance of large scale events every week that goes by. There is still no clear indication of when holidays can happen and festivals are probably in the same boat. Every week that goes by more festivals are cancelling. Bluedot has just cancelled.

It's not just the gov giving a green light it's a risk for organisers and a timing issue, some of these events take 6 months to 1 year to plan, most events staff will be part time or on furlough and have been for a long time.

Id love to go to an event or two this summer but I think it's fading away at the moment.

When you say it’s gone stale I disagree. The cases have fallen dramatically and the deaths are minimal every day. That coinciding with vaccinations up until august when most of these events are happening, I’m confident they’ll happen.

As much as I don’t like bojo he’s sticking with the road map and step 4 on the 21st of June will still happen. He wants it more than anyone because he needs the economy to start recovering after what will of been an extremely difficult 18 months.

I don't see how we can go from a lockdown with restrictions, masks, social distancing... To 10s of people in a field. More than 50% of adults were vaccinated and still told they couldn't socialise over Easter. As much as I want to get to events and normality, just get it opened up, it's a massive jump within a few months and maybe a risk they are not willing to take.

Vaccinated people couldn’t socialise over Easter but they’d come home to people who weren’t vaccinated. But once every adult has been vaccinated at least once and the majority twice, then the risk of infection and transmission fall dramatically.

This paired with testing is going to make it doable for festivals to go ahead. Melvin Benn the CEO of Festival Republic said this months ago that reading will happen with a mix of vaccines and testing, this is because if people get tested before they go to the festival or on site you can create a covid secure environment, all you would need to do is make sure that once you leave site you can’t come back unless you prove you’ve tested negative. Therefore creating a covid free bubble of festival goers, festival organisers and the govt are going to do everything in their power to make this summer as normal as possible for the sake of the economy.

Have a bit of faith fella.

How much notice do you think these events need to happen? The logistics and supply chain is massive when it comes to events. It's not as simple as just opening it up, they need notice and it's fast approaching the deadlines. Organisers are reluctant to start paying deposits and most staff are part time, on furlough or a combo of the two.

If that was the case of just sticking to the road map Glasto, BST, Bluedot and others wouldn't have cancelled.

The supply chain is key. A lot of the businesses that survived last year are hanging on a thread now, and have much less staff than they used to. Freelancers have found work elsewhere and there will not be as many people left to service events from site crew to security, infrastructure and comms. There will just not be the resource to cover everything, and if this summer goes as well, next year will only be harder.

Dua Lipa at Boardmasters? Also you've put her and Skepta as one or the other. They are massively different in size.

yeah Dua is more of an “if only” out-there guess tbh. although with the likes of 1975 kol and Florence headlining recently, it’s not too far fetched

Also anyone know Lianne La Havas? based on spotify she seems to be in a really big spot or is friday in general always a bit scaled back? all 3 of the second row on saturday/sunday are way bigger than her i'd say?

Yeah, she's amazing and probably the right level on the poster – don't think Spotify is the correct benchmark for those kinds of artists: she's extremely acclaimed and a well loved 'album artist'. Perfect late afternoon summery chill soul music.

    • World Cup 2026: What is happening with ticket prices? - BBC Sport   Sounds like Infantino has been learning from his buddy if he's running around claiming its all sold out while quietly dumping tickets below face on assorted secondary websites.
    • Mac DeMarco also cancelled
    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
    • Out of interest keep seeing messages saying last 12 hours etc… to buy you full weekend tickets.  Whats that about? Do they take them off sale early?
