Did you have absolutely no knowledge of the festivals request that people stay away  ? ... It’s is possible that you might have somehow missed it ... and the sign if you entered anywhere else other than Mary’s gate ... giving people the benefit of the doubt I find is worth doing at times ... much as we all want to protect the farm /festival and Michael and Emily ... answered above ... thanks @Homer

I'm not sure where Mary's gate is. We came in where the coaches come in, is that D? My festival veteran mates who I stayed with (who live in Glastonbury village) didn't mention it was out of bounds either.

I’m heading down to Glastonbury camping this weekend. Really looking forward to it as I’ve never been to the town nor been up to the Tor. Any idea if things to do when it’s raining would be appreciated....don’t mind getting too wet

Take waterproofs and an umbrella! No such thing as bad weather, just wrong clothing.  Seriously if you have a car then visit Wells, Cheddar and other local towns.  Glastonbury town is quirky and the pubs great. Walk the countryside around Glastonbury and Pilton, it’s beautiful and a lot different from the hilly areas in northern UK.  Clark’s village in Street is good for shopping if that’s your thing. Climbing the Tor is a must, use both the paths up and down.  We missed out on camping this year as the site we usually visit hasn’t opened.  Hopefully we will be back down before Autumn.

the large sign warning about access is next to MarysGate. Look on google maps street view, it’s just up the lane from the skate park and the main entrance to the farm.

Whatever it is you do, you seem to make sure you have enough spare time to use all your downvotes every day!

Yep....there is no parking at the Tor itself.  Nearest car park is in Silver Street which is only about 5 mins walk from the Chalice Well and base of the Tor.  It's a pay/display car park that you use with the PayByPhone app.

We park in the town centre  and walk though I believe there’s a wee bus that takes visitors up to the base of the Tor. Nice walk through the town, along the road and follow the path across a field then up the aTor. Back down the other side ‘forces’ you to walk past the riflemans pub. A few weeks ago there was quite a few travellers and their vans parked up at the entrance to the Tor but they were being warned to move on. A few spaces are available for disabled parking. There were also a few tents in the field despite the national trust/English heritage sign saying no camping.

Thanks ... I’ll make a trip there when we get a nice day .... I follow someone on twitter called glasto Michelle and she takes some incredible Tor photos ... I might see if I can take some 10% as good

This is the sign at Mary's Gate at top of 'Muddy Lane'.  You can't really miss it but to be fair to @Homerthere are other ways to get on site that don't have such obvious signage.

Kudos to those of you who are ahead of me on the Glastonbury site situ, I have already said once that I wasn't. As that apparently isn't enough, I heard the call not to go to the site, but I thought that was issued at/applied to the weekend of the festival (as in people making pilgrimages).

Despite the claims that is common knowledge, I announced my intention to walk the site about a week before I did it on the good news thread and no-one batted an eyelid - so maybe not as widely known after all? Also, I wouldn't have so brazenly announced my misdemeanour in this thread if I realised I'd broken the rules.

In true karma style, I can happily announce that in true Glastonbury fashion, it absolutely pissed it down and we got soaked through. I have no intentions to visit the site again in the near future and will double-check the situ if I do.

I only upvoted your post as I assumed you were on a wind-up 🙂

I help run stewarding teams for my cause during the summer but I’m involved in year round consultancy

There clearly is TBF: they could get a part-time security worker to do a three-hour plus round journey during the height of an international pandemic to patrol the site, presumably at evenings and weekends, contravening their commitment to support the local community in the process.

I feel like I’m being a touch unfairly treated here. You are an employee of and representative of the festival, and so far you’ve called me, a repeat punter, a ‘dickhead’ and a ‘tit’ on a public forum. I’m not bothered by that, but I do feel as if the festival is being hypocritical here. Despite me being a ‘tit’ and a ‘dickhead’ for accidentally contravening the rules once for about an hour, the festival is demanding that a security consultant undertake a three-hour plus round journey during the height of an international pandemic for a three-month period to oversee security on an empty farm, during evenings. How does the festival tally these two things up?  Does festival security qualify as being key work during a pandemic then?

As a stickler for the rules like I am I’m intrigued to know @Sdsm123 what it was like patrolling the site for 3 months, did you have much trouble? I’d hope not many people tried to get on the site.

How did you find it from a personal perspective, as it must have been tough guarding the site for months whilst looking into training as a paramedic and working as an accountant saving people money off their tax bills?

Most of the accountancy work I do covers September-April I’m line with tax years I employ an associate who does the bulk of my work which I review and gain a retention fee on. I have worked it so that I have the summer off to work/volunteer at numerous festivals. With regards to paramedics this has been in the picture for over a year

Sounds like you’re a pretty busy man, how did you find all that coupled with lockdown and then patrolling a festival site for several months? How did that work, were you on site the entire time or come down to the area to ensure people didn’t get on site?

Mainly at weekends but during the hot weather people have been there all week. Over the festival week there were 200 on site mainly supplied by specialised security with th3 bulk travelling down from Scotland. People were accommodated in Shepton mallet hotels and as a vital service to protecting the site integrity they were able to use hotels. Numerous problems including travellers on site at one point and some idiot free climbing the pyramid frame

That’s quite an experience. Do you have any pics of the farm during this time?

Very true, one of the lovely things I find about the Glasto e fest is there isn’t much nastiness flung about unlike most other discussion sites. Humour, reasoned argument and good natured sarcasm tend to be the best way to counter an opinion .
