yeah, but it's not the same as how they are getting criticised this morning...people are calling for the head of the met to quit. All I remember from bristol is people getting their knickers in a twist about some statue of a slave trader being chucked in the harbour.

theres been fairly big criticisms ... but maybe not quite so much focus on it because of the fact its not London based ...

they have been criticised for the handling of the black lives matter protests in Bristol .... in an internet connected world criticism will always come from somewhere

Anything and everything has criticism nowadays because like you say there is the internet which gives everyone a voice.

Absolutely, it’s really good to see Labour taking a stand against this type of bill. It’ll go through but I’m time they’ll be able to say they stood against it.

“at least we voted against it” is not doing enough.

Did the police presence actually achieve anything  covid safety wise ? the point of them going in would be to disperse the crowds .... they didnt achieve that .... the crowd dispersed on its own which it would have anyway ....

Did anybody in that video get arrested then?

Possibly, possibly not. My observation was limited to that video, for which I’m still confident saying that what I see and hear wouldn’t necessitate an arrest.

It’s the equivalent of going to a football match and some fans being arrested outside for hooliganism, and then posting a video of fans in the stands sat down watching the game and saying “Why did they arrest the hooligans? Look at the fans behaving”

like i posted before Ive watched the videos of lots of the marches during lockdown ... most of which have achieved a the desired effect in crowd dispersal .... all i saw here was a group of officers removing a "protester "  and then taking them back to the van through a crowd .... the police didnt have the numbers there to disperse people ... so the safest approach would have been to educate people around the edges and encourage people to go home

Well that didn't show the police moving in for four hours did it 🙂

what really happened is known now.

policed moved in, 4 people refuse to disperse and got arrested - names taken and released, rest shouted a lot and left promptly after.

it's all on video

promptly in a 4 hour video ... yep that worked well .... maybe they left because they had spent 4 hours there ... and nothing to do with the policing ?!!

I disagree with the analogy which is overly simplistic and you have compared those arrested with football hooligans.  If I see the equivalent video that shows that, if it even exists, then maybe your analogy would hold up. But for now, based on the video posted, I stand by my initial comment.

Your analogy does draw a comparison with some of the most unpleasant people in society (football hooligans).  I think that is extreme based on the information so far.

Yeah I am sure the police moving in had nothing to do with it.  Suppose it was tea time for everyone at the same time  😀

Must have got it wrong that most people where there for a vigil and not a sleepover then 🙂 ... have a read of my posts ... I’ve been nervous about lots of the marches but some of the tactics used have caused the crowds to disperse but here they did nothing apart from misjudge and cause unnecessary anger towards them when they would already be a target for that emotion ... wrong choice last night for me

Ah, classic. You can have a bill that does all this good stuff (but also some shit stuff). Surely the good stuff is enough to make you forget that it also does the shit stuff. If you don't vote for it, it must be because you don't want the good stuff, not that you don't want the shit that comes bundled with it.

Yeah, and they can play the labour is soft on crime thing which always works so well for them.

Just got to hope that enough tory mps threaten to revolt so they take some of the shitty stuff out.

    • A question has crossed my (questionable) mind;   Has the size of the Green Fields remained the same as other areas have expanded / been added on to, since say, 2014 (the last time that I attended)? Are they 'lost' within, or well attended?    That's actually two questions. The second one just slipped in at the end by taking advantage of my lack of means to stop it.
    • I'd say the same about Kylie.    Annie would be awesome, Duran not so much, and on the issue of them wanting a beanie slot, that probably rules out a fair few others who I think would fit the bill very well... and are legitimately more entitled to a headline, and/or too expensive.   Was just about to suggest Chaka Khan, but see @Gnomicide has beat me to it!    What about someone like Bryan Ferry?
