Poor headliner for Pinkpop standards imo.

Maybe the projected headliner could not be booked and as a last resort the organization promoted Post Malone to the headline spot, or

the other unknown headliner is so expensive that there is not enough left for a proper headliner, so Posty was promoted to take the headliner position.

Why do you think Post Malone is cheap and need to be promoted? With his new album I'm pretty sure he won't take anything lower than headline slot anymore.
He was third most expensive act at this year's Sziget with only Foo Fighters and Ed Sheeran before him.

No idea. Not the offer they can't refuse? Jan Smeets is always talking about Champions League. I think that Pinkpop is not in that league.

Pinkpop often have a 3rd headliner really different than the 2 others, more pop or mainstream than the 2 others.
