New security measures in place

for the life of me I cant understand as I said above they dont use scanners? able to detect far more accurately (a person may miss something but an xray wont)  a lot quicker,(pop bag on scanner, pick it up on other side airport style) and far less intrusive and keeps the lines moving faster. Id have thought it would have been a simple case of hiring the equipment for the week and the trained staff who know what they are looking for to operate it, and routing the lines through it (say 1 or 2 machines for each entrance)

if its good enough for a place like disneyland paris that handles these volumes of people day in day out then why not festivals?

Didn't really elaborate further and then turned his data off but he has quite a bit of gear on him and got in fine like

I have a 22 bag multipack of walkers .... oh the humanity!

Haha this is the sort of cryptic mine that will fuel a good 5 more pages of this thread.

I assume everything is being broken down to molecular level, quick NMR of everything and all substances categorized and flagged accordingly

It's because of the amount of daily traffic meaning it's worth the significant investment needed to install the expensive equipment. Glastonbury while huge only has these issues for a couple of days.

well obviously theyd hire rather then buy it, I don`t know the logistics exactly but im pretty sure these kind of scanners would be available for those running large events to hire?

Prior to this year I'd have said they wouldn't have had the demand for such equipment so not freely available but there's a market for it now. Possibly something that could be seen in future years across all festivals.

Best all stay at home in bubble wrap and watch it on the BBC.

Are you nuts? what if the telly falls over and lands on your head?

Best just sit in a darkened room under your duvet all weekend. Just to err on the side of caution.

I imagine the checks will be more stringent now simply because they don't have the pressure of looking up and seeing hundreds of people queuing. Either that or its time to invest in kinder eggs

You mean 10s of 1000s.

I'm guessing we're all going to be forced to drink all our alcohol at the gate to reassure security that it's not harmful chemicals. I hope they're providing the snacks.

No one has to force me to consume alcohol at the gates.

Usually I have to sip on my bag of cider to assure people it isn't piss...

Because they think that piss would be so difficult to come by on site?

So each security check is 5-10 minutes per person?

If 80,000 people turn up Wednesday morning...

80,000 x 5 mins = 277.77 DAYS.

There's not a festival next year because we'll still be queuing for this years!

come on theres at least 20 checkpoints! Only 2 weeks which is no more than slight inconvenience

That poor single security guard is gonna be in for one hell of a shift!

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
